I just want to point, nine months after Bay had his “concussion” his wife had a baby. I guess “not tonight honey, I have a headache” didn’t work for Bay.

After this incident you would have thought a clear rule would have been instituted. If you have symptoms of having a concussion you are given a car service all the way to NY if neccesary.

For Bay to then have been put on a plane is just really inexcusable.

The Mets just never learn do they?

I’m not sure if Ryan lost consciousness but the following snippets from the Daily News add insight:

The Mets were strongly criticized for allowing Church to fly and continue to play after he suffered his second concussion in less than three months when his head collided with Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar’s knee on May 20. Church, who also suffered a concussion March 1 in a spring training game, complained of fatigue, dizziness and head pain after flying and playing in the high altitude in Denver after the second injury.

Church said he felt his “brain swishing around.”
“I am exhausted. I am tired,” Church said. “With me not feeling 100% I don’t feel I can help out the team. I can’t keep on going out there and making it worse.

I don’t recall specifically, but did Church get knocked unconcious?

point is, sometimes concussions don’t show up right away. bay was like that. Seemed fine, no sysmptoms until days later.

wait, are you saying it would be good or bad for bay to get hurt and miss the rest of the season? You can certainly argue they are better off without him.

I’m not sure that Omar and Jerry have on their resumes how they mistreated Ryan Church. It’s hard to point out one event in a player’s career, but that jackass move by Omar and Jerry effectively ended Ryan’s MLB value. Ryan was never the same afterward.

If you were wise (?????), you’d drop the Ryan Church argument.

gregg, that’s what i am here for, to help say what you can’t probably write on the article, i don’t attack bay, but after signing that contract, all the speculations about him not wanting to come here, then the performance he’s given us, speaks volume imo, also, think about this, church had a concussion and STILL went with the team, this man dissapear the rest of the year, that tells you something right there..

alex I don’t disagree with you. Just one thing about the 3 Downs, When I write the piece, I try very hard not to make it an attack on any one player. In most cases I do think the guys are going out there and busting their butts on a daily basis. That said, you summed up my feelings about Bay pretty concisely.

gregg, good article, let me help you with 2 things, 1 up and 1 down, when you said “Beltran will probably go down as one of the most underrated and in some cases under appreciated Met players of all time” you are lying, HE IS the most under appreciated met of all time, is a shame we have to let him go..
bay’s hammy, gregg, he is just a POS. the biggest bust we’ve ever had, i wouldn’t doubt he take the rest of the year off, he would actually do the mets a favor..
