At the end of the day, the player doesn’t build the stadium. He just has to perform to the best of his ability in the stadiums he’s sent to play in. When you’re looking at an individual season award like say MVP or Cy Young… I agree you can use parks etc to look. For example if a Rockies guy has an ERA of 2.00, we know that is really impressive.

But in terms of a career, a career doesn’t get held up to “well he played with good players.” Because how do you know his team or those hitters around him are as good without Jeter? You don’t for sure.

At the end of the day when judging a players career you need to look at their overall stats plus the players in the league at the time of when they played. From 1996-today, Derek Jeter is an all-time great. It’s not even debatable in my opinion. Getting 3,000 hits is SO rare in the history of the sport and becoming even more rare in today’s game. Players aren’t playing long enough to get to 3,000 hits nor are they staying healthy year after year to do so.

Look at Nomar who was a complete STUD in boston. BETTER then Jeter…a lot better in my opinion. Left that stadium and that lineup and turned to shit. Injuries didn’t help, but still! Just one guys opinion.

But IF he were playing on a mediocre team and not in a lineup of all stars every season, playing in that little league ballpark, I just don’t see him being half the player he has been with the Yankees. I see him hitting .270 with 5 homers and 50 rbis every season if he was on say the royals, mariners, or METS! Sorry guys!

Secondly, would he have won 5 World Series rings being a Royal? No. But he’s not only going into the HOF because of his playoff performances.

Say what you will, dislike the guy as you may… but getting 3,000 hits is a major hall of fame accomplishment. He will be the 28th player in the history of the sport to do it, and that’s impressive… no matter what uniform you wear.

In a 162 game average
Molitor .306 14HR 79 RBI 200H
Jeter .312 16HR 79RBI 206H

And Jeter never had the luxury of being the DH late in his career. I’m not saying Jeter is or was better than Molitor, I’m saying when you compare their seasonal averages, Jeter is a Hall of Famer.

If you get 3,000 hits and don’t gamble or get proven to use steroids then you belong in the Hall of Fame.
