the mets are just as oconcerned about jOse getting hurt as he is. that is why they don’t want to pay him.

The rumblings within the media have been making it seem as if the Mets front office and Reyes’ camp are anticipating talks any day now. Hopefully more truth than smoke.

The only issue the Pujols injury will have in terms of the Mets for the next 6 -8 weeks is in the games we could be playing against the Cardinals. I have not looked at the schedule as of yet…Not having to pitch to Albert Pujols is a big relief. The man has no weakness at the plate….

Jose Reyes’ fate with the Mets down the road depends on whether the Mets will have the financial ability to satisfy him. I would agree with many of you who feel that he will not demand a ridiculous salary or an unreal number of years. Jose loves the Mets and the idea of playing in NY. He can be had if the Wilpon’s are not going to be blown out of the water by the lawsuits of the Madoff scandal

this points out why people who say Reyes undersold himself with his last contract are missing the big picture.

while this injury is probably not too serious (but, anytime a player has a forearm/wrist injury, in can linger, especially sapping power), it could easily have been more serious.

so, every player has to weigh the potential of getting hurt (maybe for good) vs. what they can theoretically make if they can play out their contract while performing like a star.

Reyes sold out his arb years and early 91 year?) of FA for a guaranteed 33+mill. Even if he blew out a knee 2 weeks after signing, and never came back, he still was having that in the bank.

But, right now, probably doesn’t make as much difference since the time horizon is so much shorter (meaning Jose is assuming much less risk), that the discount is small (because the mets are not assuming much risk).

This is an excellent point. Heaven knows Alderson has no interest in calling Reyes or his agent, but maybe this news prompts Reyes to call his agent and tell him to get something done. We can only hope.

Thats actually the first thing I thought of when it was reported today. Pesonally while I would make Reyes a nice offer -5 yrs 105 mil I wouldnt go higher. Any player is one freak injury from losing a season or a career.

I doubt Pujols’ injury will affect Jose and negotiations with the Mets very much one way or the other. For King Albert, this injury does nothing to affect how much money he’ll get this winter. It’s a bump in the road, a freak injury. His track record is enough to ensure a massive payday. While Jose Reyes isn’t in quite the same class of superstar as Pujols, anything that might happen between now and season’s end probably won’t hamper his future paycheck all that much. At worst, an injury might cost him an extra year on a new contract, but that’s about it. But, it is a nice thought that maybe this will spur Jose and his agents to open talks with the Mets and avoid free agency.

bummed?

This is a good break (no pun intended for real) for the Mets too. What will the Cards record be between now and July 31st without Pujols? And what will the Mets record be during that same time span too? And maybe with a couple of their main starters coming back?

Today the Mets chances in the Wild Card race just got better.

This is how a baseball season works, things happen, you play to WIN to get into the post season and this is just one of those things that happened and lord knows the Mets know all about injuries. I wonder if the Cards’ GM will be blamed for Pujol’s injury.

The Mets are good enough to contend and this injury DOES matter.
