Most teams develop the core of their bullpen from within and then add to it with free agents (some expensive, some journeymen.) Despite drafting a whole pile of college relief pitchers (a very dubious strategy to say the least) like Smith, Kunz, Rustich, Niessen with high draft choices we still have nothing more than perhaps a LOOGY or two in the system depending on whether Parnell can ever gain some consistency.

Minaya did inherit a few guys like Heilman Ring, Bell, Lindstrom, Owens, Feliciano and spent over 120 M on free agents Wagner, K-Rod, Schowenweiss, Mota Igarashi, Takahashi, and trading for Sanchez, Putz and Hernandez to buy some time for the farm to produce but so far, despite actually drafting college relief pitchers, we still have to look around every year to see who's available.

That doesn't usually translate into success especially when the checkbook is locked up.

You would really think that by 2011 we would have at least 3 or 4 trust worthy arms developed over the last five or six years.

Then again you could say the same thing about LF (since signing Cleon Jones in the early 60's), RF (with Carlos leaving soon), catcher where the last time we developed anyone at all was in the early 90's (Hundley) and 2B (Alfonzo.)

This team always has to import 8-12 needs every year because it purposely avoids drafting and signing the MOST talented amateurs both in the US and abroad and gives away 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks like they were candy at halloween in order to create a box office buzz instead of simply concentrating on getting the best talent into the farm, developing it with patience and purpose and then bringing it up when it's ready to perform.

It's like ever since the Wilpon became a full 50% partner their philosophy is the world might end tomorrow so why bother drafting the best players?

Why don't you apply for the job then? You seem to think you know more. Maybe you have Omar's number on speed dial and you can get him back.

I'm sure there are more over the hill has beens he can over pay for. I'm sure he can do something to make this bullpen even worse.

I'm sick of your ignorance towards the front office.

I'm very proud of what our boys have accomplished this season. I'm having so much fun watching Turner, Tejada, Gee and all the other kids from the minor leagues play. Maybe it's because my expectations are low, but every win seems more exciting to me and it's refreshing to see our prospects come up and fit right in. LETS GO METS!!!!

The more some Mets fans say Gee is nothng special, the more Gee continues to dominate the National League. Bobby Ojeda said tonight that the front office have misread Gee. He said they misread him in spring training and he says they still dont what a talent they have in Gee. They look at him and say average stuff. What they dont see is that Gee is a pitcher with four pitches he commands and throws wherever he wants. Righthanders cant hit his changeup and lefthanders cant hit his fastball that paints the inside corner of the plate with surgical precision. He also said Gee could be an All Star this season on his way to winning a Rookie of the Year award. So all you doubters keep doubting, but forget your stats because seeing is believing.

Nice win!

Gee pitched a great 8 innings.

The last time we faced the Pirates we won the 1st game only to lose the next 2 before finally winning the last game to split the series. Hopefully this time around we don't lose the next 2.

Great to see Duda contribute quickly.

Thole looked good tonight as well. It's nice to see him start to hit. Including tonight's 3 for 5 Thole over his last 12 games has 13/H in 36/AB and is hitting .361/BA over that stretch with 8/RBI. WTG Kid.

All in all a nice way to kickoff the weekend. Now win tomorrow to get back to .500
