The Brewers would still have their basic starter on field, Weeks, Morgan/Gomez, Braun, Fielder, Hart, McGhee, Luc something “catcher”, Betancourt, pitcher

Mets starter: Jose, Turner, Beltran, Murphy, Bay, Pagan, Paulino/Thole, Tejada, pitcher.
Mets are missing Wright, Ike plus what Jose provides as lead off hitter with energy plus defense makes his value more to Mets than Braun to Brewers.

Plus we are talking about one player not two about MVP

I loved seeing Endy too. What a great 5th OFer he is. Love to have him back.

He was one of a number of good Venezuelan prospects signed while Harazin was the GM. Fonzy, Escobar, Scutero.

Not all prospects make it but I’ll take a Fonzy or an Endy on my team anyday. Scutero could have at the least been decent enough to save us the 21M on Matsui and the 25 M on Castillo and putting that money else where would have helped out too.

Yes and no, Sarge. If BrewCrew were minus Braun and Fielder they would suck royally. In fact, if either of those guys goes down, they will lose more than they win. No doubt IMO.

I always thought that the role a given player has on a team is a big factor, too. Am I wrong?

Not that I don’t think any MVP-candidate doesn’t play a huge role on the team, but in this instance it seems Reyes is in a class by himself in terms of being an offensive force and a defensive asset to the Mets; without him, we’d be nowhere near .500.

God forbid he were to succumb to injury…Mets would plummet to the bottom in no time flat.

Braun and Fielder might have better numbers but Jose IS the Mets, without him they are not even close to a .500 team, same with Kemp who is finally playing to his talents, he has Eithier, Looney, at least on team to help; Jose has maybe Beltran but without Jose Mets are not even in the conversation for playoffs.

Braun has Weeks in front and Fielder in a walk year behind him plus Hart also so his place as Most Valuable Player takes a back seat to what Jose means to Mets, offensively and defensively at a high premium position. Brewers have their hitters playing, Mets don’t plus they rely on less power.

Nuff said!

Prince probably wins it but if you count having Ryan Braun against him… Matt Kemp is having a better year than Jose Reyes

Pelf came to us as a very high draft choice with enormous potential–mid-90s FB, excellent sinker…

This year he was touted as the staff “Ace” in lieu of Santana. Of course, we were skeptical, but a lot of us were thinking, maybe this will be his year to shine after a couple of very good seasons.

Unfortunately, despite his being a great guy, he seems far from any Ace-quality status.

alex: What does the fact that he need help from umps and some very good defensive plays to keep him out of trouble have to do with sabermetrics?

He was very fortunate that his offense carried him especially with the 4 run 2nd inning.

His last 2 starts he has not looked very good. I’m not sure why arguing that is even worth it? He isn’t Tom Seaver, pretending everything he does is gold is going to leave you a very disappointed person.

All I’m saying is, Gee pitched good enough to win the game but pitched bad enough to lose the game. He was more lucky than good yesterday. He walked more than he K’d. He gave up 8 hits in 6 innings. He is not a strikeout pitcher yet maxed over 100 pitches in just 6 innings.

Sometimes you have to be lucky instead of good. But pretending he wasn’t is a joke

I think it’s fair to say Gee was more lucky than good yesterday. Again, a 4/5 starter needs luck and defense a lot… Texas hit him hard, but Gee had help from his defense, his offense and the umps. Lets not make this start out to be something it wasn’t.

Good series win for sure.

what else do you want, after the first inning he hung in there, he battle, he kept the team afloat once gave him the lead and never surrender more than the score we had.. pelfrey came in friday and boom!!! never gave the team a chance..

Tiger, Pelfrey is a more talented version of john maine.. better stuff than maine, same gestures, act, etc.. john maine taller version..
