Time To Send Bay to Buffalo
There’s not a whole lot left to say when it comes to Jason Bay. It’s just so similar to Oliver Perez, that I just hope Bay makes the right decision here. Bay needs to get out of New York City, and start to figure this whole thing out. They can’t trade him because nobody will take him most likely, and anything the big club tries doesn’t seem to work. All that is left is to [...]

What A Classy Move By The Texas Rangers
While we were all fixating on the Mets draft selections for most of this week (rightfully so), something odd happened during the draft that many of you may not have noticed. The Texas Rangers drafted University of Georgia outfielder Johnathan Taylor on Wednesday in the 33rd round of the First Year Player Draft. It’s not exactly something that immediately jumps out at you, but let me explain. You see, Johnathan Taylor is partially paralyzed. Two months ago, he suffered a [...]

Billy Beane Fires Manager Bob Geren
A’s general manager Billy Beane, fired his manager Bob Geren Thursday morning in the midst of a nine-game losing streak, replacing him with former Giants catcher Bob Melvin. Geren, 49, was named the A’s manager on Nov. 17, 2006. He registered a 334-376 (.470) record in four-plus seasons with Oakland, including a 27-36 mark and last-place standing in the American League West this year. Under Geren, who was the best man at Billy Beane’s wedding, [...]

Steve Blass Syndrome
In this installment of Doug’s Dugout we discuss, the Steve Blass Syndrome, rethinking Jose Reyes, and other demented thoughts: Steve Blass won 19 games in 1972 for the Pittsburgh Pirates and finished second in the Cy Young Award voting to Philadelphia’s Steve Carlton. Lefty accounted for 27 of the 59 Phillies’ wins that year, but Blass was solid, and also averaged 14 wins a year for his career. Then the unexplained happened: he could not [...]

Mets Farm Report: June 8th, 2011
Buffalo Bisons 0 | Indianapolis Indians 1 A real good pitchers duel between two pitchers trying to find their way back to the majors. D.J. Carrasco has been dealing lately. After carrying a perfect game through 4.2 innings in his last start Carrasco led this game off with 5.2 innings of no-hit ball. Unfortunately for Carrasco the Bisons could not score any runs for him and he was taken out of the game Justin Hampson [...]

Bullpen Blows Mets Comeback, Brewers Walk-Off With 7-6 Win
Game Summary Mets fought it out till the very end, but the bullpen just…well sucks. Great start by Pelfrey with six innings and only four hits, and nice job by Ronny Paulino who led the offense tonight. Mets lose with their first walk-off loss of the season, 7-6 to Brewers. Game Notes Mike Pelfrey with another good start tonight. Pelf allowed only four hits and made just one big mistake, a fastball down the middle to Fielder [...]

Where Are All The Fans?
I’ve had to spend some down time at home this past week and I’ve watched a lot of baseball and I have a question or two and some comments. Where Have All The People Gone? Sure, some teams just don’t draw as much, but even now, there are empty seats at Yankee Stadium and even the Phillies ball park. This is also taking place during good weather and bad, and even on weekends when you [...]

From Left Field: Late Inning Comebacks Nice, But We Need Some Killer Instinct
It’s funny how the two players that we all figure will be traded by the end of the season—Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran—are carrying the New York Mets. After Reyes’ go-ahead triple Tuesday night, Beltran came through with a game-tying double off Kameron Loe in the eighth inning last night. However, it hasn’t just been Reyes and Beltran coming through in clutch situations. Despite the tough loss, first-time cleanup hitter Angel Pagan had the go-ahead [...]

Mets Fans Chipping In For A Good Cause
1986 World Series hero Gary Carter, who is suffering from inoperable malignant brain tumors, went through his first day of radiation treatments this week and we at MMO want to wish him well in his battle against this disease. Gary’s daughter, Kimmy Bloemers, wrote an entry on her online journal that the treatments are going well and that Gary is going to “take on these next six weeks like they were GAME SIX”. She says that Gary is “ready and determined” and [...]
