He did beef up the farm considerably but he squandered the very money that will cause us to potentially lose Reyes on dead ***** like Schowenweiss, Wagner, Mota, Bay, Castillo and Perez and took away from our future by spending three #1, two #2 and one #3 draft picks, failing to take back others when handed them on a silver platter (Wagner), drafted for need ASAP with college relief pitchers who were all reaches, traded for an injured relief pitcher and included a young LHP Jason Vargas as well as Endy Chavez and after 2007 stopped doing the very thing he was best known for. The international amateur. 2008 Aderlain Rodriguez, 2009 Juan Urbina. That’s it.

He continually hampered the development of anyone showing the potential to do anything up here by rushing them and they all played like **** up here.

He did get unlucky with Sanchez and really unlucky with Church and Schneider (both of whom he knew from his Montreal days) but he also got lucky with the Marlins salary dump pre 2006.

He did bring in some undervalued guys who did well. Valentin and Tatis but this is what he should have been doing more of rather than giving up a #1 pick for a 40 year old LFer, counting on Pedro, El-Duque, Maine, Perez, Glavine, Livan, Sosa, Redding being able to ALL stay healthy and productive. Murphy in LF (and getting rid of Chavez) was just a pure hope. Signing a 32 year old who needed knee surgery for 4 years at 2B, hiring Bernazard who undermined Randolph and then throwing good money after bad when he really should have asked himself “is this team really worth mortgaging the future for?” With the age of that staff? I mean how long were Delgado, Pedro, Alou, Wagner, Glavine, Franco, El-Duque, Castillo, suppossed to last? He had absolutely NO ONE in AAA in 2009. HE. A talent evaluator! He needed to back that major league age with something. Not more age. He could have and should have made some moves in 2005, 2006, 2007 and gotten a waiver wire acquisition, a rule 5 sent back to the minors after a year, a career minor leaguer, a trade from the 25 for a couple of prospects. Had a Turner type who at 26 can do something up here, a Pridie, A Luis Hernandez back in 2009. Yeah he got those guys but he had 4 years before all the injuries hit and had nothing backing up that age in AAA. By 2011 our best AAA depth is still guys who passed through the entire AL and half of the NL on waivers that no one else wanted and most of them were originally cut by Baltimore.

This is a classic case of the doctors saying one thing and the team hearing what they wanted to hear!

WHY IN THE WORLD would a doctor say it takes 3 weeks to heal based on what he saw and assume he meant from the time since the injury occurred!

This explains why there are always setbacks whenever a player gets hurt and they need more time!

The Doctor say give him 3 weeks of rest and the team backdates it and when their backdated timeline comes up the guy isn’t ready for the same number of weeks they backdated!

Just a rediculous way to approach an injury!
The Doctor didn’t make his diagnosis from the instant replay he made it based on the XRays or MRI they took a day ago!

I’m am starting to think that there is nothing wrong with this team that one good doctor and a shrink couldn’t solve!

And yes I blame the doctor as well for not saying:

David, No work or heavy activity for three weeks. PERIOD…

I don’t care how long it usually takes to heal, I don’t care what caused it Nor do I care how sson he could be back in the lineup.

All I want to know from a doctor is what to do to fix it and when do you want me back for another Xray or MRI to see if it actually has healed!

If you hear anything more than that from a doctor then he failed!
If you listen for something more than that when he talks you FAILED!

I know there is money and wins on the line especially when your about to lose 70 Mil but if you don’t listen to the doctor or go to one who thinks like a GM not an MD then you are going to cost yourself more in the long run than you would have if you just let the injury heal fully and then let him play whatever it take!

Feed him lots of Calcium and get him a PS3 until the Scans show it is healed.
And don’t try to get him in before than scan says it!

One NL East pennant in the last 23 years, and even that one only because every other team in our division sucked at the same time and one of them even gave us two of our starting players.

In the last 23 years the Pirates have THREE NL EAST Pennants. THREE! And they haven’t even been in the NL East for the last EIGHTEEN YEARS.
