I get sections of the Sunday New York Times delivered on Saturday morning, and I read it. The Magazine Section’s cover is a drawing of Derek and the comment next to the drawing says “Derek Jeter Turns 37, an age that, for a professional athlete, is nothing to celebrate.”

The inside story, 15 pages long has this title “For Derek Jeter on his 37th Birthday – Forever Young except on the playing field” By Michael Sokolove who has written a gem – even with charts etc.

It’s a good and serious read about sports and a fine sportsman.

Which is exactly why I would want to be exactly opposite of them. I would cheer the player for his accomplishment, I’m not cheering the fans.

Annie the Mets don’t have a captain because they insist that their most established, well paid and influential veterans must be other teams former stars who are on their last legs and couldn’t be bothered with any responsibility.

They prefer to just gradually slide into retirement.

Since you asked….looks like there’s a good chance Jeter won’t be off the DL by next weekend.
And that suits me just fine.

Class don’t win ball games. When they give out pennants and awards for having class, then it will matter. When an opposing player does well against my team, I’m 100% against it.
Yankee fans also spat on Cliff Lee’s wife. They’re nothing special.

Yankee fans stood and cheered when Tom Seaver won his 300th game against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. It’s not about the player, it’s about having the class to stand and applaud someone reaching a rare milestone in baseball history.

Did I click on a Yankee website? You’re kidding me, right?
Yes Derek Jeter is a great baseball player and a first round hall of famer. That said, no way on God’s green earth would I stand and cheer for him at Citifield playing against my Mets. I’m a Met fanm whether its Derek Jeter, or Derek and the Dominos if they are playing the Mets they are my enemey, and i don’t cheer the enemy, sorry.

Yes, Yankee fans cheered for Seaver’s 300th win at Yankee Stadium. He is a Yankee, but it is also a great part of baseball history.
