Yes, they do. the problem is, Wright’s haters have no idea what “clutch” actually means. They hear someone else use it and try to mimic.

How can I count the ways that would hurt this team if the Mets trade Jose Reyes – he’s a superstar here as well as an old friend who has grown up with the Mets family. Just imagine if he was not here – how full do you think Citi Field would get?????

again, i do not need to see a stat sheet to realize this guy IS a baseball player… look at #5, he puts up numbers all the time, but do the numbers actually tell you how unclutch he is?? nooooooo.

You do know that saberidiots have had him valued as a top 20 hitter in baseball from 2006-2010, even with the injuries? Saber metrics has always valued Reyes greatly, more so than the average fan who thought he smiled too much and didn’t take the game seriously and therefore needed to be traded.

If anything, a Reyes package should be closer to what Colorado got for Holliday from Oakland, not what Oakland got from St.L….The A’s parted with Carlos Gonzales & Houston Street for Holliday. Jose is having an unbelievable year, and his value is multiplied by the fact that he is a plus defensively, not to mention the fact that he plays a position where offense is a premium. He, among Tulo & Hanley are the best SS in the majors, but Reyes provides a very unique skillset. Is there any better leadoff hitter in the game?

The reason the cardinals gave up that much was because they already knew they were going to re-sign him. They never looked at Holliday as a rental and from his first day as a Cardinal they opened up a dialog for negotiation which ultimately happened after he became a free agent.

This all assumes Reyes wants a Crawford like deal, which would not be a wise investment but he has not stated he wants:

You’re not getting value for Reyes on the trade market. Nobody is giving up top prospects for a rental player. Besides, there’s no one like Reyes out there anyway.

And the odds are against you getting another player of Reyes’ caliber in the draft. Not that it can’t or won’t happen, you just can’t bank on it.

What you need to do is if you are sure that Reyes is not a Met in 2012, figure out which will give you the higher return.

all those prospects can pan out to be nothing. Why piss off the fan base? you know many wont go to citifield if they trade him or not sign him. the mets wont be contenders for long time with out reyes.
