Post-Game: Pelfrey Gets Pushed Around, Mets Lose 5-2

Mike Pelfrey

Mike Pelfrey had a poor outing today and the Mets managed hits, but couldn’t turn them into runs and they lost the series finale against the Tigers, 5-2. Game Notes Mike Pelfrey had a horrible outing today, allowing four runs on eight hits in four and two-third innings, striking out three but walking five. Pelfrey had poor control and paid for it in the third inning, which was essentially the inning he unraveled. An error [...]

Wright Hopefully Not Going Anywhere

If the Mets could only keep one of their young superstars to be the face of the franchise for the next decade, would you choose Jose Reyes or David Wright? This is a very difficult question since each comes with a certain price tag and skillset. In a perfect world, the Mets will be able to sign both players long-term—Reyes this offseason and Wright next offseason—in an attempt to keep two of the organization’s best [...]

Willie Harris’ Wife Loses Her Baby

Willie Harris’ wife Trey, who went into labor at the five-month mark in her pregnancy, lost the baby last night. Terrible news to say the least. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Willie Harris, his wife, and their entire family. Original Post Mets outfielder Willie Harris had to leave during Wednesday’s game to fly to New York after his wife Trey unexpectedly went into labor only five months into the pregnancy. Our prayers and best wishes go [...]

With TC & Others: Sandy Was Right.

Part of being a Mets fan in 2011 seems to be that you are segmented off into two groups. One group, wants the future to be bright while hoping to remain competitive. The other group seems to want to focus on 2011, and only 2011.  To me, the second group is what got us in trouble to begin with. In my view, there is a lot to be excited about right now but I’m cautiously [...]

Paul DePodesta On What Makes A Championship Player

Last night, I had the pleasure of being on a conference call with Paul DePodesta, the Mets’ Vice President of Player Development & Amateur Scouting. He was kind enough to field questions from me and several other Mets bloggers, and I was able to get the following question in: Joe DeCaro, Mets Merized Online: A few years ago while in San Diego, you made/said the following quote in an interview:  ”Makeup is often what separates the championship players [...]

Mets Farm Report: June 29th, 2011 – Evans Goes 5 for 5!

Buffalo Bisons 7 – Leigh Valley IronPigs 5 A couple of pitchers who pitched over 50 innings each for the Mets in 2009 squared off against each other tonight. Ahh, good times. It was Pat Misch who outdueled Tim Redding for the win, although neither pitched an exceptional game. Misch had the strikeout pitch working early on, but the IronPigs had the longball going for them later on. Misch struckout six over the first four [...]

Don’t Look Now, But Beltran Has Been As Good As Ever

With all the news surrounding Jose Reyes and his incredible season that he is having, we often forget the main-man driving him in, Carlos Beltran. Beltran, after two injury-riddled seasons, was expected to have an above average season at best in 2011. But the 34-year old now right fielder has not only exceeded what anyone expected, but has been nearly the caliber of player as he was in his prime. Many predicted Beltran for 15-20 home runs and [...]

Detroit Rock City: Mets Pummel Tigers 16-9

Game Summary True NL vs AL fashion here tonight. Sixteen runs scored for the Mets on twenty hits…and no homeruns. Tigers smashed in five over the fence. Totally different styles of scoring. Cap gets hit hard to end his good start streak. Bullpen is embarrassing, but offense can win ball games alone it seems like. Mets win 16-9. Game Notes Chris Capuano seems to love giving up the long ball, as he gave up three [...]
