It all depends on supply, demand and desperation.

Many of the all time worst deals are the one’s consummated under pressure of the deadline. Alexander/Smoltz, Anderson/Bagwell, Isringhausen/Taylor, Kazmir/Zambranno, the list goes on and on forever.

Personally I’m glad Omar didn’t make any trade deadline deals. Rarely do they pay off with a title and oftentimes they cost you big time down the road.

Remaining flexable and always listening is the key to getting a good deal. The right deal can occur at anytime.

All I said is if we had gone out and got an ACE at ANYTIME during those three years it probably would have meant 10+ wins in the standings and a playoff appearance.

Probably also means we don’t get swept by the Phillies and Braves and therefore probably have the division all to ourselves.

In ’07 and ’08 you may have a point, but the only guy hitting at that point was Wright. He was carrying the team on his back, but the rest of the offense refused to cooperate. Not sure another ace would have over the top. Even if they did make the playoffs, it most likely would have been messy.

fast Spring followed by a slow start and eventually getting themselves back in by the end of June where they get cold after the ASB and then have to fight and claw to maintain position until September where they get close but never close enough to the wildcard!

Which is why I have always maintained that if we had gone after and got one more ACE type pitcher over the course of the last three years this team would have been in a playoff!

Look at our record and then figure out what just 15-20 wins more in a season would have left us!

We played win now but were missing that final and key piece. That second ACE to stop the 3 game losing streak.
