Parnell To Replace Reyes While He’s On Bereavement List
Jose Reyes will miss the next 3 to 7 days after the Mets placed him on the bereavement list following the death of his grandmother in the Dominican Republic.
To take Reyes’ place on the roster, the Mets have activated reliever Bobby Parnell from the disabled list, which will give Terry Collins a short bench until Jose comes back.
Reyes told the Mets he would return after the Pirates series, and until then expect Ruben Tejada to play shortstop in Reyes’ place.
Reyes is hitting .335 this season and was the only player to appear in every Mets game this season.
In eight appearances with Buffalo spanning eight innings, Parnell allowed seven hits and two walks and posted a 3.38 ERA.
Our condolences and prayers go out to Jose and his family.

My best wishes to Jose and his family in this time of sorrow, you will be missed.
I think us Mets fans should be on bereavement. It’s like the franchise is cursed, we need an exorcist not an owner or investor.
It’s unbelievable.
What is unbelievable is your sensitivity. The man’s grandmother died, and you have to get carried away with “franchise is cursed”
Come to wish condolence to a great ball player, and see the moron met fans can’t even do that right. Well, don’t worry jerk Bayonne, next year Jose will be on a team whose owner and fans appreciate and love him and will fully support him if he has a family loss. And by the way idiot, people suffer losses, its not a met thing. but like the majority of met posters here, you are too nasty and filled with hate to know that, or anything I suppose.
Nothing but bad luck associated with this franchise
Death of a loved one is never at the right time or place but part of life so we try and support those who are hurting.
I could be selfish and say why now but I believe we can beat Pirates 3 out of 4 w/o Jose and then have him back for Bravos this weekend.
Reyes already decided he’s missing the entire Pirates series, but I hope he’s not shorting himself. He has a full week. He should be there for his family. Baseball is just a game. Whatever decision he makes, I hope it’s in the best interest of his family with no regard to baseball.
Condolences to Reyes and his family.
Sorry for Jose’s Loss, I’m With X, take whatever time you need…
Besides it will give us an idea of what the team will probably look like in August! LOL
Heh. You’re probably right about August. But seriously, I have a vague recollection of a story that ran in 2006 how Reyes was real close to his grandmother. Family is more important and I hope he realizes and understands that he has a bigger responsibility to his family than he does to baseball.
A lot of people forget that it’s a game…
little league is just a game, or playing a pickup game down at the park.
MLB is a huge money corporate business, and the players are paid huge money to produce.
Those people are still just human beings. When an executive in a high profile company has a death in the family, they are granted time to mourn, this should be no different.
sure, but I was just responding to the off seen comment “it is just a game”. While they may technically be playing a sport (not a game), it is professional.
R.I.P María Trinidad Reyes, our thoughts and prayers are with you jose…
May his Grand mother rest in peace….
Condolences to J.R. and family. Take the time.
