Niese And Easy!
The sun wasn’t shining at Citi Field, but Jon Niese was as the Mets blanked the Nationals 3-0 playing in what seemed like torrential rains at times throughout the game.
Niese was brilliant and limited the Nats to six hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out seven to improve to 3-4 on the season.
Nice job by Niese who bounced back after a brutal start against the Rockies his last time out!

Niese’s best start of the year; early season jitters may be going away. And how about Justin Turner? We may be seeing his Rise; hope he can keep it up!
Read more about tonight’s sloppy affair and get the Outsider’s take on it at Midwestern Met:

If Niese can continue to develop, he will be a mainstay as a solid #3 pitcher. He’s better than Pelfrey.
The stadium was 90 per cent empty and both teams seemed to be going thru the motions. It had minor league baseball written all over it.Sad..
I don’t know about going through motions, yes the conditions were among the worst i ever saw it was still a very good game and Izzy & K-Rod didn’t have it easy out there, those were gutty performances moreso with K-Rod
I thought it was highly competitive despite the conditions.
Great play by Murphy on a bunt play, reminded us of Keith, as he so eloquently said, if the team can’t get the guy at 2b then they need to wk harder at that.
Turner is playing good but what will happen when Ike comes back next week?
You have Turner filling in at 3b for David but Murph was at 2b but apparently Tejada is here to play but then when David returns where do you put Turner?
Good dilemma to have but do Mets go with Turner at 2b or Tejada and keep Murph off bench or do you play Murph vs RH and Tejada vs LH and Turner off bench?
I hope Collins and SA handle the best way for Mets this season first and going forward as a team.
Try not to think about too much Sarge! LOL
Good points, Sarge. I was thinking the same thing as I watched last night. Okay, it’s only one game, but maybe just maybe we really are seeing the core of a new Mets generation, and how do you stop them from playing.
Tejada seems like such a natural fit, and I had forgotten how incredibly young he is. Still, I prefer Murph’s bat, and I really admire the hustle he displays in the field, plus he’s made some real gems lately.
Turner has an adequate glove, and looks to have some real pop in the bat.
I suppose given that we know some big trades are likely, guys like these three really will have their chance to prove themselves as long-term Mets.
Pridie is another one. Am I the only one who is less than excited about the return of Pagan? Surely don’t want to see him continue to hit under .200. Pridie has been a better bat, and surely is not a bad CFer.
I’ve never seen such a rain-soaked MLB game.
What’s up with the umps?
No reason it should have continued after the fifth.
