When your team is 5-13 is what they were doing enough?

One guy was POed with the organization long before Fred said anything!
Happened over a year ago when they had issues about Surgery!

You mention Rex Ryan and Revis, Well WHO MADE REVIS?
Who is the one who first said revis is the best CB in the league? It was RYAN'S penchant for hyperbole that put Revis' name on the map! It's rex's system that make Revis work, Lets see him do it somewhere else?

The statement isn't why we have so many underperfroming players. First off if you think they are underperforming then your agreeing with Fred on that aren't you?

No we have a bunch of underperforming performers because we expected too much from them (he and US) and didn't get it!

"Steinbrenner once ran the NYY into the same ground that the Wilpon’s have run us into by being a loud mouth buffoon. He went 14 years between playoff appearances. If he hadn’t been banned from MLB the NYY would never have turned it around and he would have the same number of Championships as the Wilpon."

Yes it's all true but it wasn't until he got back into the game in 93 that the yankees actually went on thier most successful run wasn't it?

93 he returns and less that two year later, With the core Stick built and the money Steinbrenner was throwing around that they went onto 7 WS appearances with 5 WS wins in 15 years!

Just one statement from Steinbrenner as an example... Circa 1985

"Where is Reggie Jackson? We need a Mr. October or a Mr. September. Winfield is Mr. May. My big guys are not coming through. The guys who are supposed to carry the team are not carrying the team. They aren't producing. If I don't get big performances out of Winfield, Griffey and Baylor, we can't win.
—Steinbrenner to New York Times sportswriter Murray Chass."

Pretty much trashed his entire team.
Granted Griffey's son was so POed that he refused to ever sign with the Yankees again...
But he was never a guy to go for the money much anyway, He only played for two different teams!

The difference here is when your own owner calls the team *******. Ridicules himself for signing you. predicts that you won't be as sought after as the top free agent from last year and damns you with faint praise and the fact is all three of these guys have played well and more importantly played hurt for this organization.

One of them has received extensive grief from the FO in the most weaseally way imaginable and another one had to singlehandedly take ownership of all the losses over the last four years in front of the NY Press.

Compare and contrast how Rex Ryan damaged his own teams negotiating posture with Darryll Revis last off season and the difference that attitude makes in player attitude.

Those comments are just so emblematic of why this organization constantly has so many under performing players on it. Such lethargic play. It all comes down from above.

Giving some players access to top management and not others. Trating some differently. Undermining the manager.

The lack of leadership and focus on the only thing that matters in professional sports is just unimaginable.

Maybe Alderson can do the same for us that Michael did for the Yankees but he won't have a prayer if this dysfunctional ownership doesn't get the hell out of the way.

Something you all should consider...WHEN Fred said all this! And who got trashed more than ANYONE in those quotes...

The time? Early April team record 5 and 13! (What were YOU saying then?)

Fred knocked himself MORE than anyone else he talked about. He was the SCHMUCK who signed Beltran!
David was a great kid good ballplayer not a superstar, Fred again? The SCHMUCK!
Reyes had everything wrong with him...Fred? SCHMUCK!

Anyone who can speak Yiddish want to attempt a banning by translation of that word Fred used in regards to himself?

In the deepest part of that long lost spring Fred gave an interview. From that perspective everything he said was true!
The team was Blankety! Beltran was no longer a CF who anyone thought could play everyday, Wright was hitting .240 (Superstar?) and Reyes being traded for prospects to try and fix all that was being discussed! Reyes Carlos and Davis were the only guys who were performing at the time. Ike did most of the heavy lifting of the three (Hence good hitter crappy team!)

Some of you just hate the Wilpons, Any excuse to slam them will do!
I reminded everyone yesterday of another Owner who got the same treatment in this town and he got a burial reserved for ROYALTY in this city!

He was smug, brash, said what was on his mind, demanded a lot from the guys he paid, fired anyone who he felt under performed...
Oh and he also won 7 WS, 11 Pennants since 1973 (roughly 40 years of GREAT baseball!)

"Sure, I read the Big Picture Book of Sports. It's not like I'm busy with anything else like oh, say, running a nearly billion dollar franchise that is desperately clinging to solvency. Its not like I'm scrambling to figure out how we can deal with fact that our owner called out our 3 best players, 2 of whom are unrestricted free agents at the end of the year and can probably get contracts we can't possibly afford.

Oh, Fred said the team has financial problems? Not like I didn't hear that one before. Like when I took this job 7 months ago. Or this time last year when Selig broke down the situation for me as he poured tequila down my throat and dared me to do it. I've been living under a rock and had no idea the budget was getting cut because attendance in the world's most expensive food court was in the crapper. Or that the owners are currently being sued for a billion dollars. I'm sure there is plenty of stuff in that article I didn't already know.

It's not like I've got a farm system so limited, I asked to get Wesley Snipes on a work release or want Charlie Sheen to throw for a radar gun. Or that the only real major leaguer we have above single A just under went Tommy John surgery because he spent last year getting bounced around and only threw 1 pitch 400 times.

I'm certainly not busy taking a franchise in the biggest market in the world that has also been one of the biggest punchlines in sports for 50 years and making it a sustainable winner while in the shadow of the most successful and recognized team on the planet.

None of that stuff is happening. I have plenty of time to read Sports Illustrated and whatever fluff piece about a quadriplegic point guard Okichobee High School they are running this issue. Its on my desk right next to this month's issue of Tattoo Journal and Highlights for Kids.

Did I read the article. I'm living the damn article.

Next question. Am I looking forward to building a team with less than $100 million? *sigh*"

Ribant.

Only an imbecile would be of the opinion that only the A's were using and only A's management was aware.

The whole thing was a massive cover up from the top on down. Filled with phoney baloney about Bats made of maple, balls made in Haiti, smaller strike zones and ball parks, better workout routines. You think guys who had been in MLB for fifty years like Don Zimmer, Joe Torre, Tim McCarver, Vince Scully, Mel Stotlemeyer, Bobby Cox, Dusty Baker, Frank Robinson, Felipe Alou, Walt Joketty, Gene Michael, Phil Rizzutto, Yogi Berra, Hank Aaron, Bobby Valentine didn't see things they had never seen before?

Think it was only the A's? Only hitters?

I'm not defending Alderson. I'm simply willing to give him a chance because the way we have gone about our business in the last two decades has only had extremely limited results.

Even a flawed thought process can occasionally provide the desired result through randomness, unexpected opportunity or just plain luck.

That's what has provided ALL of our "success" over the last two decades.

The Marlins financial problems leading to us acquiring three of the best players in MLB and coincidentally taking themselves out of contention in the NL East. The Braves having their first losing season in 15 years. The Phillies not yet ready to contend, the Nationals not having the horses. The West being weak, the Central mediocre from top to bottom, the Reds losing three of their last four, beating the Pirates on a wild pitch walkoff on the last day of the season.

All this with the HIGHEST payroll in the NL.

Guess what Ribant. The Marlins new stadium will most likely provide them with the ability to keep their best players. The Braves have already recycled themselves with LOTS of TOP TALENT young players. The Phillies have one of the best starting rotations ever assembled. Even the Nationals have lots of top talent, some of it here, some of it on the way.

The Giants and Rockies are poised for dominance for a decade. Reds too. Cubs could be there as well. Pirates have LOADS of talent in the farm.

The fact is we have mortgaged our future time after time and for exactly what? To luck out when two teams in our own division tank and two others aren't yet capable?

Who cares that he had some success 25 years ago while his teams were going about their business the same way everyone else was.

Who cares what his public reactions are to remarks his employer made.

None of that is relevant to anyone except a jackass.

Randomness, unplanned for and unexpected opportunity, luck. That is no way to build a baseball team.

Only a moron would advocate a continuation of the SOS and not give another approach a chance, and then use non relevant, non baseball examples as a reason to continue a flawed and unsustainable philosophy that only works when everything aligns just so.

About once or twice a decade.

“He asked us how we were feeling about the whole situation, if the comments were bothering us,” Reyes told The Post. “We understand there is a lot of frustration in the organization. We just need to move on. … He can say what he wants. He’s the boss and we are the employees here. All we can do is continue to play.”
there, he's the boss he can say whatever he wants... he's 100% right, but by no means he should've said what he said. that's not his mo, he's not known for that...
btw, in yesterday shalacking of the mets, only reyes had a rbi and went 2-4... most of you who want him gone for "projects.. ehh, Prospects will regret losing the BEST baseball player in NY mets right now

Hey agee... Its obvious you are nothing more than a tool for Alderson. I hope he pays you well for being such a useless example of a human being. You have no credibility. All your info if one wants to be nice and call it that comes form the Met pr bible. Dfend Alderson all you want. He is no better than the previous regime. Actiually anyone who has a funtioning brain knows he is a liar. and he is acts like he is a superior entity. Whjen in faen the sct all he can do is win with cheaters. Cheaters and liars a good combo for losers like you and your friends the Wilpons and all the fired gms they brought in. enjoy the losign and deny the fact that real met fans, those with brains have already spoken. park is empty and sny ratings are in the tpilet, a place you are definitely most familiar with..

His honeymoon is over? Ribant you are such a fool. The non-baseball stuff is nothing more than a distraction, only the baseball stuff matters.

With 13 M to spend in the off season he has done pretty well so far in my opinion but the most important work coming up is the June amateur draft and the July 2 international amateur free agent signing period.

That's whats most important to this franchise. Not what answers he gives to some lamebrain about something the owner said.

He's never had a honeymoon to begin with here anyway. He had 4 or 5 months of Ollie and Castillo 24/7 and being criticisized because the owner had no money, now your claiming it's over? Why? Because you say so?

Hysterical Ribant, you are just hysterical.

I just read a follow up by the Daily News, Wilpon appologized to Reyes and Beltran via speaker phone in the clubhouse at Wrigley. The article claims he wanted to fly in and do it in person but the players voted against it. That is more alarming than the original article, IMO. He says something stupid then doesn't have the decency to call them individually. He wants to make a public apology and the team that HE OWNS votes him down? He so badly needs to go! Wilpon has become the Ollie Perez of owners! He sucks, no one wants him around, but he refuses to go away, even though it would probably be for the good of the team!
