Russell, I'd neve accuse you of anything but understatement....

By the way, I too will be rooting for Angel Pagan, a player who gives you his all and has a great attitude. Yes, he's made some mistakes on the bases. If that's the standard to judge a player, let's send Jose Reyes, a great player, back to the minors.

Tag, Tag, Tag, You know I love you right? lol

but sometime you need to read some of your various posts together in the same sitting because some times they conflict with each other so bad I almost think there are two of you or your real name is TARA!

On one hand you say Omar had terrible taste in draft picks then compliment each of them on their own in some other discussion...

You actually managed to conflict yourself in the same post this time Where you bash a bunch of players who have EARNED their money when they are NOT hurt in favor of a guy who has been nothing BUT hurt since he was drafted traded and then brought back and only had the numbers he had because for the FIRST TIME in his career he spent more time in the Majors than the DL!

And made it have something to do with being in his Prime! Hell for all intents and purposes was his Rookie season considering how often he played before that due to his health!

Pagan CAN and will probably be one of the best CFs that played the game provided last year was NOT a fluke and he can stay healthy for more than one season in a row!
Maybe even better than Beltran at some point who can say....
Won't do it on the DL, and that just goes to show you that your theory on PRIME really isn't all your cracking it up to be...

As I have said you CAN NOT PREDICT INJURY!
It has nothing really to do with Age, Age makes things probable NOT Certain. Look at all the 30 somethings who do NOT get injured.
A 20 year will hurt himself just as quickly as a 30 year old will! The only affect AGE has on injury is the time it takes for it to heal!

How old was Mejia? How old was F-Mart when he was constantly hurt?

Age is not relevant to injury, DUMB LUCK and BAD CONDITIONING is what leads to injury!
The better the conditioning the better LUCK you will have avoiding them.

It's not the players we signed regardless of how much, Not their age and certainly not WHERE we got them from. It wasn't the SCOUTS that gave Beltran two cortisone shots and don't call me in the morning about surgery treatment. It was the team doctors, team trainers and the team surgeons that made all those signings and injury happen, Not the guy who actually got hurt or the guy who picked them and paid them based on what they did when they were healthy!!

You wanna Knock Omar and the Wilpons for anything?
Pin the QUACKS and staff they hired to perform "STRENGTH and CONDITIONING" plus "MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS and ADVICE!" on them...but really not much else!

Well he WAS a platoon when GMJ started the season, Wasn't till they gave up on GMJ that Pagan got all the starts.

As for the rest it may have been true last year....But thats about it.

Pagan had 633 PAs last year (2nd most behind Wright), so he was no platoon. He played gold glove caliber defense last year and was a plus baserunner (37 SB with 80% SB rate). Pagan is the Mets' best contact hitter and his avg will easily go up considering his excellent 1:1 k/bb. I don't recall Wright being a habitual liar.

russell,

what i am is a realist and not many ppl like it or see it that way, we as mets fanstend to fall in love with a player and not see his flaw, pagan imo is average at best, injury prone and okay defensively, yet mets fans wanna give him a gold glove and think he's a 300 hitter, same thing with murphy, i remember all the love he was getting, now everyone knows he's nothing more than a below average player who will be in the bench

Honestly, I try not to be a gloom-n-doomer, but getting excited about Pagan's return in light of his start to this season? Nah!

Alex68, while not the most pleasant of bloggers, is pretty much bang on in how he sees the Pagan.

Still, I'll be rootin' for the Angel and hope he finds his wings from last season.

i am sorry, are you one of those living in the past type of fans??? i don't care what he did in 2009 in 90 games or last year while being platoon and not having a guaranteed position in the OF before trading francour(breakout year after 6 season), we're talking about THIS year, he's INJURY PRONE and is ok defensively, again, you wanna go by 1 play? well, he had terrible read in CF, bad judgement, doesn't know how to break, isn't smart on the bases (call a dumb baseball player who's an athlete) and was hitting 159 before getting injure... again.. so, am i right or wrong? 100% wright!!!!

From mid season 2009 to the end of last year no one played better than Angel Pagan.

     No one.

At the start of 2009 he was merely an afterthought. The only capable backup/bench player we have had here since Endy Chavez. How do you go from being a 4th OFer to a very pleasant surprise to being overrated in one month?

Angel Pagan plays a gold glove + caliber CF, great arm, runs the bases great, over the last year and a half hit .300 got OB .350 slugged .450, scored runs, drove in runs and played hard every single second while other guys were just going through the motions. Guys making a lot more than him too. Pagan was the best everyday Met for a year and a half at approximately 1M per year.

That's 1/6th of Castillo, 1/12th of Perez, 1/16th of Bay, 1/11th of Wagner, 1/3 of Schowenweiss, 1/7th of Alou. Overrated? You got to be kidding us.

Even getting off to a slow start with the bat he wasn't bogging down the offense. For the month of April he was still getting OB .300 so he wasn't killing us. He made a bad play or two in CF but he made a couple of spectacular one's too, even a double play.......again.

What this team needs is more Angel Pagan's, not less. Guys who's skills are all around, not one dimensional. Guys who are in great shape and play hard every second, guys who take advantage of the opportunity they get rather than guys coming here just because we'll pay them double. Guys who are looking for the big contract, not guys who are looking for the easy way out.

For my money Angel Pagan was the bright spot of a really bad year and a half we just went through and I thanked him from CF at the tail end of the last season and when he turned around I could see he really appreciated the recognition and respect and he more than deserved it.

From pleasant surprise, gold glove candidate, solid all around everyday player not clogging up the roster and payroll to overrated in one below average month.

     Wow.

If he's overrated then what does that say about all the overpaid aging underperforming and frequently injured and self entitled freaks we have been importing here for twenty years now?

     Man, you got it backwards.

     Pagan is in his prime
