Remember–the mets paid Beltran 119 mil, and he then offered himself to the yanks for 100. That is two markets at work right there. A buyer’s market and a seller’s market. Crawford fleeced the Red Sox. Anyone who bases a salary negotiation with a player on the Crawford contract is a complete fool.

I don;t want my GM overpaying. The Crawford contract was a disgrace. The market often adjusts itself. Only fools try to keep up with the Joneses.

I agree that Jeter’s loyalty is likely not as deep as you think, Rob. That might be a sticking point for the Yankees.

“Assuming Jeter would agree to move to another position ….” Where would Jeter move to? His most likely position is 2B. Sorry, wrong number. Robinson Cano is more than eight years younger, getting better all the time, and might resist. What about 3B? Alex Rodriguez just might object. It would be, if it happened, payback for what Jeter did to him when he came to the Yankees.

Let’s also remember that Derek drove a hard bargain, as he’s certainly entitled to do, when he signed his current contract. George Steinbrenner is gone, so Derek isn’t beholden to the Yankees front office anymore.

Your points about Jeter are very on the spot but your hogwash comments about overpaid players. Grow up. You get what the market thinks you are worth. Tell me you would turn down a 7 year deal for 120 million because you aren’t worth it!

Don’t be so sure about Jeter’s loyalty. A-Rod was the better SS when he came here, but Jeter would not budge. If Jose is a FA and the yanks sign him, well so be it. I hate it when players are overpaid. You don;t overpay a guy to keep him from going somewhere else. We just happen to have two really good players who think they are worth a lot more than they are. Who made them feel that way?
