Jeurys Familia Promoted To Binghamton

After Saturday’s game and during the post game show on SNY, the Mets announced that RHP Jeurys Familia has been promoted from High-A St. Lucie up to Double-A Binghamton.
Familia was off to a great start at St. Lucie and had a 1-1 record with a 1.49 ERA in six starts. He racked up 36 strikeouts against eight walks in 36 innings pitched.
The 21-year old right-hander was a surprising choice, but deserving nonetheless. His teammate and Mets 2010 draft pick Matt Harvey was having a dominant season as well and could be the next one to get bumped.
Harvey, 22, is 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA in six starts with 39 strikeouts and 11 walks in 32.2 innings pitched.

Harvey will be joining Familia in AA by Memorial Day. Calling it now.
Not to forget Scott Moviel, the 6’11″ righty is 4-1 at St. Lucie with a 2.72 ERA. Not quite as good as Harvey and Familia, but after the way he pitched last year, it is very encouraging.
Please don’t rush the prospects, please don’t rush the prospects…
I don’t think this F/O will rush prospects the way the last one did. Even though Familia is only 21 yrs old, he spent all of 2010 in Pt St.Lucie so his hot start earned him a promotion. Harvey is entering his 1st pro season, so while he may eventually get to AA this year, I think the Mets will keep him in High A for a while longer. An indicator to me that they won’t rush prospects is the fact that Corey Vaughn, who tore up the NY Penn league last year, wasn’t sent to High A. I fully expected him to open in St Lucie, not Savannah, but obviously they felt like he’d benefit from some time in Low A ball first. So I don’t worry about prospects being rushed. If they were going to then Kirk Neiuwenhuis would’ve been called up to replace Angel Pagan, not Jason Pridie.
You don’t think they will do what they already are doing. They are the same old crap. Guys being rushed. Managers making edicts and then doing something different two days later. New names, new faces, same old Mets.
Common Dennis. Really this is a new F/O they are doing things different. Its only been a month, and you havent seen it yet? Minaya would have promoted Harvey and Familia after 4 starts. All they have done is start Familia in a league he struggled and played in last year. So this is a natural progression. Harvey will be moved too,but not until he improves his change-up. This organization will be missing Mejia because he was the 3rd in line of progression ,to the Mets? But they will not be rushing a prospect in his absence? Instead they called up Misch. Next up will be Casey Fossum.
Another guy that no one is talking about, but who could be called up any time, is Chris Schwinden. In five starts at Buffalo he is 2-1 with a 2.00 ERA. He looks very good, but I would like to see them stretch him out a little over his upcoming starts. So far he has been lifted after five innings of ball where he is simply unhittable. When he can pitch into the seventh inning, I would say he’s ready for Citi.
I trust the baseball guys but not the owner. If they let Reyes go instead of giving him 20M a year, I will not forgive them. But if they tell me it will be two more years before we have the best man in a pitching matchup, I will go along with them, even though I will be 83 at the time.

Well said. Keep your workouts going strong.
Great to see Familia getting the bump to AA with former pitching coach Marc Valdes. After watching Familia struggle last year getting acclimated to High A Ball It’s good to see this year he looked to have finally figured it out.

The way Brandon Moore is pitching at Bingy, he may be getting bumped to Buffalo soon. 29 IP, 3-0, 2.76 ERA, with 25 hits, 24/4 K/BB, no HR’s surrendered.
familia isn’t being “rushed”. To me, that implies bumping guys up before they have proven they deserved it (F Mart to a large extent was a victim of this).
especially if a guy is repeating a level, once they have shown they have mastered that level, over a decent sized stretch, then they should get moved up to the next level.
getting promoted mid season also does not mean they are pushing too fast. While most guys should/do spend a normal 1 year per level, it does not have to be in the same calendar year!
