Dear donutz, 1. most people in the Bronx are not met fans so unlike you they don't give a crap abut the tolls to Queens, secondly loser most parks have public transportation. We'd name them but you can't comprehend English, and thirdly explain how the cold Winter imapacts attendance. How many games were played during the Winter? please exclude spring training, in case sandy didn't tell you parrot, they aren't real.

I don't know what it is but I noticed a lot of empty seats all over the country right away when I had the MLB Extra Innings package.

I can tell you that registration is down in the local youth leagues too. What was once a roster of 14 on the 13-15 age group went down to 12 and was only recently brought back up when they allowed the 16 year olds to rejoin but they can't pitch. Rosters are down in the younger age groups as well.

Maybe it's a phase? Maybe younger kids are not into baseball as much as they used to? Maybe they prefer their little hand held gadgets instead? Maybe it's the prices? Maybe it's all the distractions at the new stadiums? Don't know. Can only tell you that registration has been in decline for at least the last 4 years.

I will point out that the Phillies sell out almost all of their games!

Empty seats are not a good judge of Ticket Sales.

In many cases the seats are bought by Corporate entities who use them to entertain clients. They usually have Season tix for BOTH the Yanks and Mets and take the cliet to whichever one he chooses.

Most Families do not take their kids to baseball games until Late June because for one just about every game is a night game and Kids have school Parents have work, vacations and days at the park are Summer activities.

Driving to Citi from north western New Jersey is very expensive.
I would go to games if I lived closer to the park.

It comes down to the high ticket prices. I would go to games whether the team is winning or not.
I used to like some of the ticket packs they offer - but none of them carry any value anymore.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but this was one fo the coldest winters in recent record in the North East. And it went later than usual.

Also, most parks require driving to. NYC has the most extensive mass transit system in the world, yet its still a pain to take the train to Flushing if you don't live along the line. The cost of gas and tolls (at least, when I have to trek from the Bronx to Citi) is a big concern for those who drive there. It just another prohibitive cost on top of parking, ticket and concessions.

Going to a baseball game has changed over the years, Annie. Back in the day, you never waited on a line for 3-4 innings to buy a burger, you just sat in your seat with your eyes fixated on the game and the food and beverages came to you. The game is the least important thing at a ballgame now, not only are there all these distractions but the new-age fans love the distractions and instead of saying our first baseman is better than your first baseman, they say Citi Field has the best burgers, and Yankee Stadium has the best museum. We may not have a first place team, but we do have a rotunda. It's a very beautiful rotunda, but I'd take the green monster or the ivy covered walls over these new frills any day.
