Strawberry – 8 seasons with the Mets. Piazza – 8 seasons with the Mets. Hojo – 9 seasons with the Mets. Reyes is in season #9 and Wright is in season #8 with the Mets…if history is any indicator, these guys are gone. Wright is owed 2 more years and is in obvious decline, hopefully he gets traded since someone will definitely want a cracker with a pretty smile who can hit HRs who is also signed for 2 more years. As for Reyes, the Mets would be insane to trade him because he shows no signs of decline, in fact, he is getting better, and since he will be a rental player, nobody is going to give up too much for him. Sign Reyes, trade Wright!

It isn’t really an either/or. Sandy could well trade both of them. And by the way, Detroit writer, David’s glovework could best be described as “not putrid.” The only way to ensure mediocrity in the field is to trade for Ike Davis as well.

I agree that David Wright is a beast and a top 10 offensive player in baseball but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be made available. If the marlins were to offer the mets Ham Ram straight up for Wright I would do it in a heartbeat. Sandy would be stupid to say any of his players is unavailable for trade.

Sandy Alderson would be smart to field offers for Wright starting now, trade him and sign Reyes long term. Reyes is literally irreplaceable, as a leadoff man as a shortstop and as a sparkplug to the team. Thirdbasemen like Wright are easier to replace. Lets not get all sentimental here just because he is homegrown, he has become a streaky hitter who strikes out much more than he should. I would go to the A’s and offer Wright for Cahill straight up, if not go for Anderson or Gio Gonzalez plus prospects, theyre all studs

He’s a huge favorite of knowledgeable Mets fans that like winning. I wonder why you don’t like him.

And while I’ll agree that Craig’s writing is not exactly neutral, he’s far from the most biased.

Personally, I wouldn’t get rid of either one. But, given the choice I would have to agree with you! Reyes is such an asset to this team. We all saw what happens when he isn’t playing. I am not saying that Wright isn’t important I just don’t think he carries the same weight! Just my thought!

This is the biggest non story of the week. Why you felt the need to even go as far as to call the writer’s article “ridiculous and speculative” is beyond me but whatever to each his own.
All the writer in the end did was share his thoughts (not the Tigers or Mets) on why he thinks Wright may be available (the reason being that he thinks they are “unsettled”) and how he could help the Tigers and what it might take to trade for him.

That’s it. No according to sources no according to unnamed NY MLB connection no according to anything. Just his thoughts and opinions. Just reading what he said should of made that loud and clear.

“The Tigers must deal for another bat. And the position they must desperately need to bolster is third base, where Brandon Inge is batting .212 and blowing up inning.

He might become the hitter he showed he could be two springs ago, but it isn’t happening. And this is a team that can no longer forsake offense in an infield that doesn’t generate enough of it this side of Cabrera.

The Tigers’ best bet would be to corner the New York Mets and offer a package for David Wright that the unsettled Mets will likely need to consider.”

I dont share your enthusiasm for Wright and if it came down to keeping Wright or Reyes I want Reyes. Trading Wright now gives us a huge return, and the $16 million a year he gets paid can go to keeping Reyes who may not have better stats than Wright, but is more important to the team and winning.
