2009- He never would’ve hit .307, strike out 140 times, or start his decline in OBP if Delgado never got hurt.

2010- David Wright is NOT a .283 hitter (he didn’t hit .278…surprise, you’re wrong AGAIN!). This should’ve been the year in which he stepped and become the “Captain” everyone has been hyping him up to be. Instead, he strikes out practically once a game and again, his OBP tanks to .354.

If you don’t believe Carlos Delgado wasn’t a factor in David Wright becoming a .325/33 HR threat, I have a bridge to sell you. This was a guy with a .416 OBP a few years ago and now he has a hard time getting on.

I KNEW when Wright finally hit that go ahead HR tonight, you was gonna try to shove it down my throat. Well done. I was quite surprised. You’re the only one here that needs to wake up and see that Wright is not the guy you think he was years ago. Bottom line, as long as he doesn’t have a big time, intimidating slugger after him in the order as well as him flailing after everything, don’t expect him to hit .300 again.

09 – a .307 BA for the year – while playing along side AA players with no protection – Homeruns down yes but if that’s a slump then you continue to make this easy

10- finished with a .278 BA but homeruns back up to 29.

Yeah a real slump since Delgado left.

His K’s are alarmly high no doubt, but after those two K’s before the post – he had the winning hr before this one. Now lets hear the excuses how he gets no credit for it.

Do you know what frustrates me the most though, Russell? I’ve seen it all over the Mets blogosphere. It’s like here in NY, there’s David Wright…and then there’s everyone else. When Wright struggles, everyone forgives him and Wright’s given more slaps on the wrist than judges do with Lindsay Lohan. One criticism of Wright (even if it is justified), Met fans loose their mind and go on to rant like a 10 year Justin Beiber fan like this imbecile “NYMetsFan” has done. When someone else struggles(Davis/Beltran/Bay/Reyes/etc), the criticism never dies down as much, people want them gone, or worse. I don’t know if you heard, but Josh Thole had to close his Twitter because fans were wishing DEATH on him. DEATH! Prior to this season, fans were calling Beltran “Bel-TRASH”, “cancer”, “selfish”, and couldn’t wait to deal him (even though we were all unsure if he’d even be 100%). Look at how people treat Beltran now. Stop holding players on a higher pedestal than others. Is that hard to ask?

Ahhh the old “He’s in a slump” argument. Excuses, excuses…a long, month and a half slump in which he has led the team in strikeouts and recently, crashed into Davis and cause him to go on the shelf for the next two weeks due to a popup on IKE’S side of the infield. If this was ANYONE else on the team struggling like this, you’d be killing them right now, so don’t bullshit me, kid.

WInning this series after dropping the first one was a big deal. Our Metsies are not irrelevant yet, and I am praying we finish May at .500–like the rest of you, I’m sure.

NL East is really tough this year, and although I have no delusions about our boys, I am rooting for them to keep coming back after looking like they’re dead and buried. Not sure what’s holding us together, but we might even be able to get stronger as the year progresses.

Here’s to rooting hard for them in Houston. A sweep is not out of the question, but, again, we need to win this series badly.

If you know anything about DW’s career, you know he is one of the streakier hitters in the NL. We all hate watching him slump and doing nothing, but it won’t last.

He’s better than average; he is great. At this rate (career rate), he has anexcellent chance to make the Hall.

Think about it.

He’s in a slump – it doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out – but to kill the guy for a slump and act like he’s Choo Choo Coleman out there is what makes people like you look stupid.

NO….Plain and Simple Wright is an ALL-STAR!
That is certainly well Above Average!

Is he a HR hitter? NO!
He tries to be and it causes him to strike out too much.
He IS a high average line drive gap hitter that uses the whole field and is a very good defensive 3B! (He’s not gold Glove!)

But he is an All Star!
Maybe he is not a #3 Hitter. Who on this team other than Beltran who is much closer to the train station than Wright is at this point.

Bay sure isn’t a #3 Ike is a pure #4, Pagan when he hits is a #2, there is no other player OTHER than Wright who can fill that role for us.

So whatever you think about his qualities I say if he tried to BE a #3 Hitter instead of a #4 he would not just be an All Star but a possible HOFer!

I think he is a class act but he is not a #3 hitter. He would be a better fit lower in the lineup. As the #3 hitter you are the team’s best hitter. Is David Wright the best hitter on this team? Does he have enough consistent power to bat cleanup? Or is he consistent enough to protect the #4 hitter at the 5 spot?

My answer is no to all of the above. He is an above average #6 hitter. With all the trade talk swirling around the Mets, in all honesty who would you rather have Wright or Reyes?

You all make me sick, the guy is a professional, hits nearly .300 every year and close to 30 homeruns, but OMG he left Daniel Murphy on base in the 9th and didn’t bail out the bullpen for blowing yet ANOTHER game, so he SUCKS!!!
