If the Mets are going to rebuild, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be building around guys like Wright and Reyes. Reyes hasn’t turned 28 yet (he will next month), and should be a very productive player for the next five or six years.

I really don’t think the Mets will resign Reyes. The AL East and wild card race is going to be fantastically close this year. Let me use this opportunity to state my prediction. The Mets will trade Jose Reyes to the Boston Red Sox for Marco Scrutaro and 2 of the Sox outstanding Prospects. Thank you.

Sure he could have. At that point he needed Alderson much more than Alderson needed him plus the whole thing could have been a dog and pony show with Selig sending Alderson here.

The biggest problem is if Alderson gets fed up and just leaves. What then? Jeff and Saul? Fred doing PR?

A 146 million payroll? For what players. The only thing I can think of is that they’ll trade Beltran at the deadline and pay Reyes his Carl Crawford money. Now I have to get to the emergency room to see if a doctor can get this uncontrolable laughter under control. (I think these comments were intentionally made by Alderson to reassure Met fans that it ain;t all that bad-well folks it is that bad!)

None of them say anything. It’s not to their advantage to say anything. Things change too. Cashman stated he wasn’t giving up his #1 pick for Soriano and then he did. Doesn’t matter why. Things change. GM’s have to speak to the press but there is never anything in it for them so they just speak in generalities.

Try pinning down your local anything and see what kind of answers you get about stuff that really impacts you. Specifics? Guarantees? Absolutes? Givens?

Get real.

Regarding Alderson, much of the time he talks and really doesn’t provide answers, and at times, contradicts himself. Alderson’s someone who uses an intelligent sounding delivery to dance around a subject and basically say nothing of substance. He uses an evasive, non-commital lswyer approach to make people think he gave an answer he really didn’t.

I think Alderson was taken by surprise regarding the S.I. comments and was peppered with questions he couldn’t yet answer regarding the budget.

As far as Reyes, at least he gives both us and Jose hope for an extension. Hopefully Reyes will withstand union pressure as there was precedent last season when several high profile players like Cliff Lee took fewer dollars and years to sign where they truly wanted. If Mets intend to resign Reyes, it would be good to try to get it done ASAP so this drama doesn’t continue to torture. I know Reyes said he didn’t want to negotiate during the season and that Sandy most likely didn’t start out wanting to do that either, but this is something that best be done now for everyone’s peace of mind.
