Des - not taking anything away from Murphy he has showed to be as good as the other mokes we have, but what does that tell you when Murphy COULD ACTUALLY BE the best defensive 2B we have?

He certainly is better than Emaus who has screwed up more DP chances in a month than Murphy probably has in his career. But saying Murphy is the best 2B we have (while maybe true) really says more about his competition than Murphy himself.

Forget Tejada, he isn't here and you have not seen me suggest he should be.

Just be honest with yourself and ask yourself if you think everything hit at murphy is going to result in a sure out.

He HAS earned the right to play there, No Doubt there! His bat is certainly worthy of playing.
He hits good vs Lefties and hits adequatly against righties as well.

His only issue is if you throw him strikes early and he gets behind he hits .133

His fielding has been good so far but only when you factor in no one actually expected him to be good with the glove to start.

And even a broken clock will show the correct time twice a day!

I hope he gets better with the glove and wins the job outright. Emaus was the 2B who I really had issues with. Murphy at least can make up for his mistakes with his bat. But he will make some errors you have to know he is not exactly the best 2B out there. Maybe the best we have but when compared to the rest of the league you have to admit it's a much different story.

As of now he has no errors and turned two Dps.
There is no issue having an offensive 2B, just as long as his defense doesn't offset what his bat does.

In regards to Murphy, so far so good.

Regarding Murph, I agree. This guy has bumped form position to position and has been expected to be Golden Glover wherever they put him. It's entirely unfair. I place part of the blame on our hometown announcers, who for reasons known only to themselves jump on Murphy, but ignore other guys.

Spot on Des!! I thought was the only one still holding out hope. Hey it's a long season, in my mind the Mets will lose anywhere from 81 to 90 games, so if they lose now, they'll get hot later on.

Personally, I think the ‘follow the bandwagon’ crowd, is offbase with regard to Murphy. He’s one of the best athletes on the team and is being asked to excel at every position he plays. The kid already is defensively better than the cherubic impostor, Ruben (The Angel) Tejada.

With that one comment you really undid your own credibility in my opinion. How can you say Daniel Murphy is better defensively than Ruben Tejada? Are you taking your meds?

I love Daniel Murphy, and for the moment, he is the best option we have on the 25 man roster, but it will take more than a couple of double plays and 6 MLB games at the position, to convince me he is defensively superior to Tejada. But that's just me.

Metsie, are you referring to the best defensive second baseman we have, Daniel Murphy? If so, your criticism is a bit strong, isn't it? Did you see the two double plays he turned last night. Even Keith, a heretofore skeptic, was impressed. The three hits, including the homer, counts for something too.

Well what do you expect when the second most important fielding position is considered an "Offensive" position?

If Bay comes back we might at least get rid of the OF mistakes but if you chose who to play based on their bat and not take into account their glove you WILL be the worst fielding team in baseball.

Thats why I rail against those who claim Fielding isn't important only the bat and spout batting stats whenever they suggest who to get.

If you can't catch the ball when in the field you won't ever get up to USE that bat!
