I enjoy reading someone else' perspective of Mets off the field stuff and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Lets not try and get too ahead of ourselves here.

We won the first series and have a tough one against the Phillies in their park up next.

If we are so ready to heap praise on them after 3 games (one of which we almost blew) what will the posts be like if the Phillies sweep us!

It's a long season and all we can say right now is they aren't digging a hole for themselves.

They won the series against a team a 140 Million dollar payrol says you should beat!
Lets see how they can match up against an 180 Million dollar payroll, before we start singing their praises.

No need to characterize the team yet, just watch and enjoy and maybe watch with less doom that you did last year.
Then if they do win you will enjoy it more!

Well it's hard to complain when you are winning! LOL

It's a long season, so far they are enthusiastic but we need to see where they are in August when the exhaustion sets in and what they do once they face a little adversity.

So far so good.

There were a few players who got stuck in Jerry's doghouse (why I don't know) that he had Omar get rid of like Church and Castro. There were some players who almost never got any playing time from him like Evans and Reed but what in the hell do you expect him to do with Jacobs, GMJ, Cora, Catalonotto, Perez and Carter? Please tell us what kinds of moves Manuel should have been making with those guys?

The whole thing about a team is finding ways for everyone to contribute, not burying a couple of guys at the end of the bench who never play or bringing in people who simply aren't good enough to play in the Major Leagues anymore.

Manuel had the worst bench ever in 2010. 2009 wasn't as bad but was still ill conceived matchup wise with the starters, still had people who couldn't do anything and the AAA depth was non existant.

Not many moves a manager can make are going to pay off when the guy your bringing in every single move you make either gets DFA'd mid season, in the off season or the next spring training. I mean if these guys had been any good they'd be playing somewhere this year wouldn't they? Where are they? Where's Cora, GMJ, Jacobs, Catalonotto, Reed, Sullivan, Carter, Perez, Arias, A. Hernandez, Ramon Martinez. Where are all these guys? Didn't anyone want them?

I like this team. So far, it seems like a much better bunch then last year. No whiners, no slackers, more focused, more intense. Guys hustling, playing smart, etc.

basically, all the stuff that does not show up on the back of a BB card, but helps maximize wins and fan enjoyment!

and something sorely lacking (to be fair, with all the injuries, some of this is probably perspective from inferior players) the last few years. And that, I point straight at Jerry (with some input from Omar).
