Seriously, This Is Too Much!

I’m working on a post for later this afternoon right, and I need to check out something quick about the Mets 40 Man Roster. So off to mets.com I go and then I click roster, when lo and behold I see this:

You can click the image to enlarge it but basically it shows everybody’s uniform number as No. 42.

Now seriously folks, was this really necessary?

  • MLB has become obsessed with Jackie Robinson. Sure he was a major part of baseball history, but come on, tone it down it a bit, MLB.

    • Dave, most likely this is spurred on by MLB’s desperation to attract more interest from African-American Athletes, a major focus for some time now.

  • It’s Jackie Robinson day. Relax. Go check other team sites. I bet the Mets aren’t the only team doing this.

    • FYI, MLB controls team sites not the teams via a contract through Goddard Institute. MD(NASA) basicly why there is mirror-like continuity in site construction these past 7 or so yrs my closest friend(57yrs) has worked within the Data Center(GlaassHouse) @ Goddard over 30 yrs

  • The Mets were created as the replacement for the Giants and Dodgers. so they try to keep that culture alive in the team today. The Dodger blue and the Giants orange is where we get the Mets colors. One of the biggest things to come out of either franchise while in NY was Jackie Robinson. I think it is a nice sentimate to change it for one day. Why not?

  • It’s Jackie Robinson day. Everyone salutes #42 today!

  • Give ol’ Jackie his just desserts, he earned them.
