Ronny Paulino Activated From DL; Mike Nickeas Optioned To Buffalo
The New York Mets today announced that they have activated catcher Ronny Paulino from the 15-Day Disabled List and he will be available for tonight’s game at Philadelphia. He will wear uniform #9. In order to make room on the 25-man roster, the Mets optioned catcher Mike Nickeas to Buffalo (AAA) of the International League.
Paulino, who turned 30 on April 21, was placed on the DL on April 10 with anemia after missing the first eight games while serving the remainder of a 50-game suspension.
The 6-3, 250-pounder hit .190 (8-42) with two doubles and four RBI in 12 major league rehabilitation games. He went 2-4 with a double, one run scored and an RBI last night for Buffalo.
Paulino hit .259 (82-316) with 18 doubles, four home runs and 37 RBI in 91 games for the Florida Marlins in 2010. Since 2005, he owns the sixth-highest average in the majors against lefthanded pitching, batting .338 (164-485).
Nickeas, 28, hit .250 (5-20) with one double, one home run and three RBI in eight games with the Mets this year.

Very good job by Nickeas while he was here. He hit .250 (which was great for Jerry Grote, lol) but he’s developed a good reputation with his pitchers and if it don’t work out here (i hope it does) then he’s got a little resume now and will no doubt get a job somewhere.
Couldn’t agree more. Near the end Nickeas started to look more comfortable at the plate. A guy like him will see the majors again sooner or later.
I give props to Nickeas for how he called the game when he was in there.
All of our best pitching performances were when he was calling it behind the plate!
Unfortunatly a .250 BA is not going to keep you up here.
