R.A. DICKEY: Prior to tonight’s game, R.A. Dickey will be presented with the Sharp Pitcher of the Year Award…Sharp Electronics will donate fun centers (mobil movie and game units) to local hospitals in Dickey’s name…The righthander went 11-9 and finished seventh in the NL with a 2.84 ERA last year.

IKE DAVIS: Ike Davis had an RBI single in the fifth inning yesterday and has driven in at least one run in eight of the Mets’ nine games this season…Davis is tied for fourth in the majors with 10 RBI.

JOSE REYES: Has hit in eight straight games after failing to collecta hit in the Mets first game of the year…Over those eight contests, the Mets shortstop is batting .368 (14-38)…In addition, Reyes has reached base safely in the first inning in seven consecutive games with six hits and one walk..

BULLPEN: New York’s bullpen allowed six runs over the final 4.0innings yesterday…The pen suffered its second loss of the year…Mets relievers have combined for a 4.98 ERA (19 earnedruns/34.1 innings), ranking 26th in the majors.

STRIKEOUTS: The Mets struck out a season-high 17 times yesterday and have struck out 27 times times in their last two games…The last time the Mets struck out at least 17 times in agame was April 17, 2008 at Washington when Nationals pitchers fanned 17 in 14 innings…After striking out 26 times in their first four games (6.5 per game), the Mets have fanned 58 times over their next five games (11.6 per game)…New York is second in the majors with 77 strikeouts.

GOOD SIGN: The Mets have won eight straight home series vs. Colorado (dating back to 2003).

Game Preview

The Mets start their second home series of the season tonight with the Rockies. The Mets were cruising to a victory yesterday until the some hiccups in the bullpen and inability to bring runners home from third cost the Mets the game and the series. Tonight’s game should be interesting as the Mets look to see if Mike Pelfrey will look more like the ace he has the ability to be. In his first two games of the season he is 0-1 with an ERA of around 15. Last season he was 2-0 with allowing 0 ER over 14 innings of work against the Rockies. Hopefully he can channel that into his game tonight. The Rockies have the following numbers on Big Pelf:

Tulowitzki 5-15, 2B
Helton 6-10, HR
Fowler 2-10, 2B
Wiggington 1-8
Gonzalez 2-5, 2B, HR

Jason Hammel will be getting the start for the Rockies tonight and he is looking to bounce back from a rough first start of the season where he allowed 4 ER over 6 innings. Last season Jason was 10-9 with a 4.81 ERA over 177.2 innings. He lost his only start against the Mets last year pitching 7 innings allowing 4 ER. The Mets have the following numbers against Hammel:

Pagan 2-6
Reyes 2-4
Beltran 2-3
Davis 1-3, 2B
Murphy 1-1, 2B

It’s worth nothing that the Mets have a .359 BA against Hammel, 14-39, but only two extra-base hits.
