Young Pitching Prospects Show Promise Early
With still 147 games to play, a small winning streak gets us right back near .500. But, while the big club continues to struggle, some of the promising young pitching prospects down in the minors are showing their potential early. The trio of Jeurys Familia, Jenrry Mejia, and Matt Harvey, who are the top 3 pitching prospects in the Mets farm system, have all made 2 starts apiece to begin the 2011 campaign. In those [...]

Bay’s Return From DL Now Pushed To Thursday
The Mets announced that Jason Bay will be activated from the disabled list on Thursday, two days later than he would have been eligible on Tuesday. Bay was in New York today to meet with Sandy Alderson, Terry Collins, and team doctors, and it was decided he needed more time before being activated. Due to the cold weather in Buffalo and Binghamton, Bay will return to Florida and play two more rehab games tomorrow and [...]

3 Up, 3 Down: The Damned Thing’s Over
“The damned thing’s over,” Legendary New York Mets announcer Bob Murphy, was talking about a marathon game between the Mets and Braves. Of course I’m referring to the seven game losing streak. The Mets were down in Atlanta this week and lost two of three games to the Braves. Friday night’s game was rained out, making Saturday’s action a double header. The Braves took both ends, but the Mets win the final game of the [...]

Gee Strong, Reyes Ignites Mets 3-2 Win
Dillon Gee had a good outing, Jose Reyes was the tablesetter and new #2 hitter Josh Thole was productive and the Mets broke their losing streak, beating the Braves 3-2. Game Notes Dillon Gee in his first start of the season looked great. Gee only got in trouble once, and that was in the second inning after allowing a lead-off triple to Dan Uggla, who would later score on a Freddie Freeman single. Gee managed [...]

Shake It Up
At Aerys Sports, there is a fine conglomerate of baseball bloggers, headed up and written by women. Their resident Mets blogger, Kelly Lake who is the author of “The Curious Case of Sidd Finch,” raised an interesting question about the Mets a few days ago. She asked: When will the players be held accountable? It’s an incredibly fair question, and one I wanted to address myself. Lake’s raised a point about the blame game. Media [...]

Is This Team Really Playing Better And Trying Harder?
When Terry Collins was asked to comment about Daniel Murphy’s outrageous decision to steal third base last night, he called it an “error of enthusiasm”. As a matter of fact, this team suffers from a “lack of enthusiasm”. They take the field like a team that expects to lose. The worst that can possibly happen – the worst possible outcome – finds the Mets time and time again. Wherever they go, a black cloud follows [...]

Mets DFA Misch After Doubleheader To Make Room For Gee
Misch didn’t even get a chance to shower… He was just DFA’d to make room for Gee. Dillon Gee will be called up and take Chris Young’s start on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, with Pat Misch being used to back up D.J. Carrasco’s start today. Original Post In a surprising turn of events, the Mets have placed right-hander Chris Young on the disabled list and promoted Pat Misch from Triple-A Buffalo. Young experienced biceps tendinitis after his first two starts, [...]

Mets Lose Both Games In Doubleheader Against Braves; 4-2, 4-0
Game One: Game Summary Mets get out slugged as DJ Carrasco gets over matched against the Braves’ long balls. The bullpen holds together, and the offense fell silent. Mets lose the first game of the double header, 4-2 to the Braves. Game Notes When the Mets chose DJ Carrasco to start for them in a pinch spot, they new it would be a long shot. They did not know it would become literal. Three balls [...]

Realizing It’s Time To Rebuild
I’m not really a negative fan, at least I’d like to think so. I never booed Oliver Perez or Luis Castillo, and I never called for Omar’s firing. I don’t think I’m smarter than the people who run a professional baseball team, and I try to recognize there’s always more to a story than we know. Now yes, it’s early, and anything can happen. However, you don’t win games with a lack of talent. The [...]

I Sense A Big Shake-Up This Week, Some Heads Will Roll
It’s taxing times for a beleaguered Mets team these days, but there’s no rest for the weary as they get set to play a doubleheader for the second time in three days. The Mets even tried unsuccessfully to get MLB to intervene and overrule the Braves decision to play two games today, but their pleas fell on deaf ears. Atlanta is the home team and it’s their call. The Braves have their own problems and if they can squeeze an edge [...]
