Forever Young, Mets Beat Phillies 7-1

chris_young--300x300

Chris Young, in his Mets debut pitched a great first game, going five and one-third innings, giving up one run on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts and the offense exploded in the third inning, chasing Cole Hamels in their 7-1 victory. Game Notes Chris Young looked pretty good in his first outing for the Mets. He allowed five hits, but didn’t start allowing hits and runs until after the 4th inning. Young [...]

Chris Young Has Spectacular Debut With Mets

The Mets were hoping for big things from Chris Young when they signed the right-hander to an incentive laden one-year deal in the offseason, and he gave them just that only most of his heroics were at the plate and not on the mound. Chris Young came up in the the third inning and singled off southpaw Cole Hamels, then after the Mets batted around, he came up again and lined a broken-bat single to drive in a [...]

SI.com: Blow Mets Up And Start All Over

As I was reading through the team by team previews on SI.com, I came to the Mets preview where Sports Illustrated graded the Mets offseason a “C”. Not a big deal and pretty much the same assessment we’ve seen all over the web. The three key questions for the Mets in 2011, which you can read about here, are: 1. Can they withstand the loss of Johan Santana? 2. Is Jason Bay back? 3. Will Jose [...]

The Foundations of Success – Part Two – The Hitters

BB Wright

In a further look into the foundations of success, after a team has found a manager, which I wrote about yesterday, that knows the game, can pull the correct strings and can really make things happen with both his direction and his decisions, he then needs to rely in his players. Those players consist of the offensive players, who for the sake of this article we’ll call hitters, his pitching (both bullpen and rotation) and [...]

From Left Field: Top 10 Power Hitters In Mets History

I know this may be slightly off topic due to the HUGE three-game road series starting in Philadelphia tonight, but everyone loves the home run. Home runs are the most exciting part of a baseball game. Over the years, players have made a living on their ability to hit the long ball. Though the New York Mets have been known for developing strong pitching prospects like Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Jon Matlack and Nolan Ryan, [...]

Mets Heading To Philly With A Sense Of Purpose

One beat writer called the upcoming three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies one of the three biggest series of this entire season. Whether it is or not remains to be seen, but I would bet you couldn’t get one player, coach or manager to agree with that. And if anyone should know, wouldn’t it be them? With that said, I do believe the series could have some added significance. The opening weekend started out with a [...]

Sickels: Prospect of the Day, Brad Emaus

John Sickels of Minor League Ball, profiles Mets second baseman Brad Emaus in his Prospect of the Day series and writes, Taking over at second base for the New York Mets this year is Brad Emaus, a Rule 5 pick from the Toronto Blue Jays system. Drafted in the 11th round in 2007 from Tulane University, Emaus doesn’t have exceptional tools or eye-catching athleticism, but is a “grinder,” a player whose performance may exceed his [...]

Warthen Amused, Feliciano Hurt And Vows Revenge

Yankees Spring Training

I wanted to update this Pedro Feliciano/Brian Cashman post now that Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen had a chance to weigh in, as did Feliciano himself. Warthen actually got a kick out of Cashman’s comments that he “abused” Feliciano and sort of mocked him. “They didn’t know that when they signed him? That was part of the reason we decided to not re-sign him — because we knew we had used him 270-some times in the [...]

Is Picard Representing The Victims, Or Reaping Billions For His Own Agenda?

Lost in all the excitement of the season-opening weekend series against the Marlins, was some news regarding the ongoing clawback lawsuit against the Mets partners by trustee Irving Picard. The Daily News reports that there is mounting criticism over the revenue and fees Irving Picard has been paid for recovering the billions of dollars lost by the victims of the Madoff Ponzi scheme. Reportedly, the $2.5 billion dollars that was setup in a non-profit escrow account to help pay for Picard’s fees is almost wiped out. [...]
