Heyman: Reyes, Beltran, K-Rod, Pelfrey Could Get Traded

Jon Heyman of SI.com, reports in his latest column that “there’s growing suspicion” that the Mets will try trade Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes, Francisco Rodriguez and Mike Pelfrey if they are not in contention before the July 31 trade deadline.

There is a growing suspicion around the game that if the Mets are out of it at mid-year, they will look to trade several veterans, possibly including Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes and Francisco Rodriguez. But there is a belief now that Mike Pelfrey, a much younger veteran, might also make it to the trade block, a possibility that was first speculated by John Harper in the New York Daily News.

I don’t doubt that the Mets will make some sort of an attempt to trade Beltran, Reyes, or K-Rod if the season unravels, but he would truly have to be a miracle worker to get anything of real value for Beltran or K-Rod because of clauses or options in their contracts that make them unappealing.

Reyes could catch a nice price from a team that needs a shortstop and a leadoff type, but I don’t know what the Mets can possibly get for Pelfrey who probably appears to be a No. 4 type starter to most teams especially those in contention.

  • NOooooooooooooo. really? ya think?

    • While I agree that this is all possible, once again Sherlock Heyman is on the case.

  • That Heyman…..he’s really ahead of the curve.

    • My thoughts exactly. :-)

    • LOL Yeah I been saying the same thing since about a week before Sandy even got hired!

  • Well if smarter decisions were made to make this contending team he inherited better than maybe all those guys wouldn’t have to be traded right away. Talking about trading all these guys already tells me you’re giving up on the season already

With less of a premium on defense the Mets are gonna have to win a lot of sloppy games and unfortunately teams can’t contend that way.

    • you know this is Heyman talking right? He’s a Yankee mouthpiece. o one in the organization has said anything about a trade.

      • Another mental midget post from the parrot Donut. And guess what loser, you telling us what any org is is the biggest joke in the world. what do you know?? Does Sandy Alderson tell you the inside scoop when you parrot something you heard on the TV. Donal want a cracker. Donal needs a brain tke hiom to OZ.

    • “With less of a premium on defense the Mets are gonna have to win a lot of sloppy games and unfortunately teams can’t contend that way.”

Is this Bayonne’s back door way of asking for Ruben Tejada? But Daniel Murphy played GREAT DEFENSE in the game at 2B. And Murphy is a proven hitter.

After watching our bullpen lose games for us again this year, why should we view ourselves as a contender?

      • another guy who likes to shoot his mouth off to fast and winds up paying for it…that’s des and he’s done it before.

While I was stunned by Murphy’s play last night SMART people wait to see more before being convinced. Let’s see him continue to do it again before finally admitting that he has learned the position.

        • Stop calling out people for shooting off their mouths, when that’s all you do. You pontificate like Joe Expert and make a fool of yourself every time.

Keep saying the same crap over and over, no one agrees the first time you say something, nor the 856th time you say it.

          • Listen Mr. Piggy Back

All you do is go around judging me and other commenters and you’ve STILL never added anything of your own to this blog. So just shut the hell up, you’re starting to get annoying now.

And what? You’re disagreeing with my point of view of let’s see MORE before we’ve established what we saw last night was real? Sounds like SOLID ADVICE to me.

            What a clown.

          • JerryG15 – i think it’s safe to say this urchin adds NOTHING to this blog. All he does is critique my responses and critique other poster’s responses. The guy does not add a gosh darn thing to this blog. He adds NONE of his own perspective and just trolls other posters judging their responses.

I have news for you boy. My responses are going to continue to annoy you day in and day out so you better prepare yourself with some of your own perspective one of these days. The world is full of people that don’t behave the way you like them to so you may as well get that through your THICK skull and finally start adding your own insight here.

        • “While I was stunned by Murphy’s play last night SMART people wait to see more before being convinced. Let’s see him continue to do it again before finally admitting that he has learned the position.”

I think many would agree being surprised by Murphy’s defensive gems last night. It’s no secret that Murphy has been a defensive liability throughout his brief MLB career so for me most I can hope is that he can make the routine play with regularity while knowing that once in a while he will blunder and that every once in a while give you those gems like yesterday.

It’s good to see that now at least your willing to wait and see what he can do at 2b unlike earlier in the year.

      • Oh, and if they pulled that game out last night it would have been EXACTLY that. A sloppy win.

Oh, and I’ve been saying all along on this blog as well that I TRUST Daniel Murphy in big spots and that he is a valuable addition to the Mets bench.

  • No ****, Heyman. There’s no “could” about it. There’s a fair chance they’ll remain in contention and STILL trade Reyes, Beltran, K-Rod, and Pelfrey for arms (as well as propects) that the Mets will need down the stretch…taking a page out of the (World Champion) San Francisco Giants playbook. You have key guys entering free agency next season like Jonathan Broxton, Mike Gonzalez, Jonathan Papelbon, Chris Carpenter. The Mets MUST take advantage of the deadline….something they have neglected to do for YEARS.

  • BREAKING NEWS: The Mets play in Queens.

Wow, great reporting Heyman. Also, Lerner, thanks for passing this along, I’m sure there were, possibly, 2 or 3 Mets fans who were not aware of this.

  • There’s also a chance Jon Niese will win the Cy Young, Snooki will win a Nobel Prize for literature, and I’ll wake up next to Scarlett Johanson.

“A growing suspicion around the game” ie hack writers needing an easy story decide to dump on the Mets.

    • Ow…….my head. How much did I drink last night…….?

      • Damn it, how did you get loose?!

    • Donal, you nailed it.

“There is a growing suspicion around the game that if the Mets are out of it at mid-year…. Mike Pelfrey, a much younger veteran, might also make it to the trade block, a possibility that was first speculated by John Harper in the New York Daily News.”

Jon Heyman and John Harper get paid to keep you reading. These two guys probably flunked out of intramural volleyball so they turned to writing sports gossip. I trash their writings because I find blog writers on the internet better and more interesting.

      • Yeah m well tyu fliunked the I’m jeolous fo guys in the game class. Heyman is in the game and you and donal sit in your cage and chirp sweet nothings becasue you know nothing. Heyman a job in baseball. Donal and friends dream of it.

        • And Harry C. is Heyman’s songbird!! I wonder how Harry C. did in intramural volleyball. He loves to spike with his posts, but his bumps and sets need some work.

          • Harry C = Heyman bottom b!tch =)

  • And why are we reading about rumors and suspicions that have been reported since SA came on board, must be slow news day?
Mets apparently don’t provide enough fodder with the Wilpons troubles that now they are re-reporting stuff that has been reported previously.

    Oh well.

I will once again as I have stated previously when this stuff is re-reported, Jose is an important part of this team this year and going forward, IMHO.
He provides All Star defense, lead off capability, rattles other teams when on the bases and is a fan fav that Mets fans adore, despite his past injuries.
He is an exciting player and enjoy his play, hope for a healthy season and also maybe some hitters behind him will help him score.

  • Jon Heymann and all these so called “insiders” don’t know their rear ends from their elbows. The are like people who throw things at the wall and what sticks they report…..

    Don’t waste your time.

    • You know what now Jeff!!! LOL

  • Wasn’t there also a growing suspicion Cliff Lee would be a Yankee?

Hey, how long until Heyman starts saying that will be Reyes’ destination?

    • Too late. It’s been “reported” on numerous occasions. By more than one “reporter”.

      • Who quotes lots of “insiders” and “people in baseball”?

        • Seems like all of them.

  • As I have been saying all along it really doesn’t matter what Reyes or Beltran are doing if the team is not in it they are history come the deadline. Pelf could go as well but to tell you the truth no pitcher is safe if that scenario comes to pass.

Even Young who has been pitching stellar would be on the block as it makes sense to get something for him before the arm starts bothering him and his value is high due to success.

Lots of people will be interested in Niese but I somehow think he will be kept and have the rotation built around him which would include a Mejia and Harvey should they prove they are ready to promote.

While I think Reyes is doing well enough to resign him I can not say that our OBP centric GM will agree while his OBP is only .354

Pagan I believe has also been infected by the OBP focus. .304 OBP but a .179 BA. He has almost as many walks as he has hits which says to me he is not aggressive at the plate the way he was last year.

If things don’t get turned around soon then I definitly see a swarm of trades coming and I can’t complain about that provided we at least retain the following for next season.

    Ike Davis
    David Wright
    Josh Thole
    And possibly resign Reyes.

That should make room for a guy like Havens at 2B, Maybe Pagan gets himself together and can continue at CF. Hope Mejia, Harvey can fill the rotation and maybe go after an ace in the offseason with the Beltran money and we would then have a pretty young team to build around via FA.

At this rate all the ideal conditions for having a house sale I identified during the offseason exist.

Reyes is having a good year, Beltran is playing and hitting yet we still are having to fight to win every game.

They have a tough series coming up against the braves and losing a series to Houston would pretty much make a fire sale front page news in a very pessimistic press.

Brace yourselves, if you thought things were bad last year in regards to pessimism you ain’t seen nothing yet if they are not within 5 games of the division by the start of June.
