Dillon Gee Could Make Spot Start On Sunday

Due to the implications from tonight’s rain out and Thursday’s doubleheader, the Mets may have to use R.A. Dickey on short rest or callup another starter to pitch Sunday’s game.

Adam Rubin of ESPN believes that the Mets could send reliever Ryota Igarashi down to the minors and callup starting pitcher Dillon Gee from Buffalo to make the spot start on Sunday.

With six games now in a five-day stretch, the Mets will need a spot starter Sunday, if not sooner. The logical maneuver would be to send down Ryota Igarashi before Sunday’s game in Atlanta and promote Dillon Gee, who is on turn. Then Gee can be returned to Buffalo for a position player to increase the Mets’ bench back to the standard five.

It makes perfect sense to me.

Dillon Gee, pitched for the Bisons this evening and tossed seven innings allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out four.

  • I like this move. Only thing that would make me like this even more is if Parnell is sent down to AAA and O’Connor is called up with Gee.

  • I like that idea, particularly the part about getting rid of Parnell.
