Look, The GM has to do what he feels is best for the long run, regardless of the outcry. No way it will be anything like the Kazmir deal. More along the lines of Bannister or Reed. I hope he’s listening.

Pelf/Shields sounds interesting.

I was thinking St. Louis would be a potential fit for Pelf. I also believe Arizona and Tampa (Pelf-Shields swap?) could show interest.

See if the Mets trade him now(relatively soon) I think they could get a good package. If they wait, and he blows up even more, the Mets will get crap back.

Texas would be a nice fit, except right now their 3-5 guys in the rotation look to be doing quite well. I know its early and anything can happen, but I dont see them looking to trade their prospects for Pelf, Im sure the Rangers FO knows what would happen to Pelf in that stadium.

Sat, by your own admission, why keep Pelf? since when he’s not on one of those random win streaks he’s usually mired deep in a bullpen destructive hole. You are 100% accurate concerning keeping Reyes inasmuch as his tendancies as well as actuals defy a simplistic OBP comparison most sabreheads choose out of convenience for instance despite Reyes .335 OBP being less that Crawford(.337) & Jeter’s(.387) his propensity for not making nonproductive outs(Ks) is significantly less than both of them @ 18% where Crawford nonproductivly making outs 23% & Jeter 27%.
Based solely upon a reverse calculation using OBP to determine how many AB reulted in non safe calls(outs) & of those total outs made determining the % of Ks.
Though ALL 3 players had significant instances whereby their reaching base, any base safely(OBP) resulted in a RS( run on the scoreboard) of nearly a remarkable 50%. It is Reyes, who inches out these other 2 noteworthy winning players by popular standards there exact % are:
CRAWFORD .4594434
JETER .4708670
REYES .4833333
Since Santana’s return is anticipated to correspond with the mid-yr deadline(7/31) it would seem to me a likely return for Pelfey just may be a pkg of up to 3 minor leaguers at least one a high prospect level depending upon the desperation of the acquiring club’s position in the standings vis a vis the postseason. But; by no means should they consider dealing Reyes until such time as he’s rejected their honest best possible offer.(I believe presumptions & assumptions of Reyes’ avarice are far too overblown & I would force him to emphatically prove where his heart is) before I dealt away such an enormously contibuting player with such unique skills and temperment.

I’ll bet your right SF. I’ll bet the Cards are thinking about him right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if Duncan could do for him what he did for Pinero either and if he could how much would Boras love that. In fact behind the scenes Boras would probably do anything to get Pelfrey over there.

One thing about the Cards though is they really don’t have much in the way of highly rated prospects. Only a couple of RHP above A+.

Texas on the other hand is brimming over with top shelf talent at all levels of the minors. 19 prospects ranked in the top 20 of the league in which they competed last year.

We have to be concerned with selling low but Pelfrey has had some success and is still regarded as a GB pitcher and under control for almost 2 full years.

That was a good link coop. Looking back on it, it is a shame Heilman never got any of the starts that went to Lawrence, Williams, Sosa, Pelfrey or Humber in 2007 and 2008. That could have made a big difference.

I went to a Heilman start against SF and although he took the loss, thought he looked decent but your conclusion that he became too valuable in a minor role to be promoted is probably dead on.

There are plenty of teams that would trade for Pelf, it just depends on what they are willing to give up.

Could Pelfrey be traded? Yes…but who would want him? He doesn’t have it upstairs to be a real good hurler like people have hoped him to be. I’m not judging him because of recent starts. I’ve said as early as the end of the 2010 season that Pelf should be traded. The early 2010 Pelfrey is not coming back. Period. Tonight’s start from him was just deplorable (it’s the 3rd inning as I’m typing this), leaving pitches over the plate again and again. It’s been time for the Mets to trade Pelfrey elsewhere, but when will they pull the trigger?
