Come on – You know you want to!

Original Post 6:00 AM

This actually saddened me a little when I read it, but according to the Bergen Record, things weren’t looking so good at Citi Field Tuesday – the first day fans could buy individual tickets for games at the advance ticket windows.

The Licastris waited for tickets Tuesday morning at Citi Field, where single-game seats went on sale at about 9 a.m. — an hour earlier than announced… They were among the 52 baseball fans…who bought tickets before noon at the advance ticket windows at Citi Field. There was no wait at all until 10:25, when a line of just eight people formed. No one camped out overnight like years past; no one spent hours waiting…The team had no comment on sales, team spokesman Jay Horwitz said.

The Record said some of those who showed up were Yankee fans buying up Subway Series tickets, and many of the Mets fans were there to buy Opening Day tickets.

I wonder what internet sales were like?

  • Well since Al Gore invented the internet, has anyone checked the numbers there?

    • another happy little metsie, finding things to celebrate as his team falls into the cellar FOREVER. you better buy tickets little metsies, show the world you are proud of fred and the boy. they need your $$$. no more bernie freebies. give the wilpons your $$$$. how many tickets did you buty grote???? better buy a lot.

      • Stay in school, kid.

  • How is this even a story?

I can’t remember the last time I bought tickets for anything at the box office.

  • Hope everyone will remember this when we can’t resign Reyes at the end of the year.

They will all complain about Madoff and the fact the Wilpons don’t have the money to spend on fans who don’t spend themselves.

    • You realize there is this thing called the internet, right? And that there were also several different locations for people to buy tickets? That the stadium box office was the least conveninet to reach out of any of them?

And that these are the tickets they couldn’t sell as part of packages?

And people wonder why my opinion of traditional media is so low.

  • Sad.

  • What I’m getting from reading these comments is that tmost of you are young kids and not an oldtimer like me. They see that inmage and say so what, but for those of us who flocked to Shea Stadium in 1974 and waited on line for three hours wrapped in blankets and clutching out thermos of hot cocoa, it’s a reminder of how much things have changed. Whether it’s the internet or more places to buy (we had Ticketmaster back then too) it’s still worth mentioning for those of us who hearken to a different Mets era. I bet none of those fans had Dairylea Mets coupons they cut out of their milk cartons to get $1.00 off. I bet none of you know what I’m talking about either, but that’s ok. Lets Go Mets!

    • Yes, I do know what you are talking about, I had those coupons myself.

    • First Met game I went to (1973) was thanks to my sister drinking gallons and gallons of milk. Pretty sure it would have been cheaper for my folks to just buy tickets (and they wouldn’t have been in the top of the upper deck either!)

      • Nice “My 1st Met game” story Thanks for sharing. :-D

  • This is good – push our deadbeat owners further into the red… maybe they’ll sell a controlling interest! (I know, wishful thinking)

    • You realize an unprofitable business is difficult to sell, right?

They need the Mets to turn a profit so they can sell them for enough to pay their debts.

      • I find it absolutely incredible that someone would make a ridiculous cliaim like you just posted. Do you realize unprofitable businesses, like bankrupt ones get sold all the time. They are not profitable. I guess your grade F in business class makes you unable to realize that good businessmen know how to turn a losing company into a winning one. But if you are implying Met fans need to buy out the park to get the Wilpons out, then tell us how many tickets you have bought…At least a pair of season tickets, or its time for you to shut uop since you are all talk and zero action.

        • How frequently? Got a number? A percentage? And is it because the business itself was unprofitable or because it was run badly? What happens to those businesses afterwards? Are they just bought to strip the resources, to be restructured etc etc?

          Those are important questions.

not to mention that fact that we really don’t know the specifics of how bad things are for the ‘pons or Sterling Mets (which are 2 different entities).

Because if the ‘pons are in a spot where they have to sell the Mets because they personally need cash for their debts, then Sterling Mets needs to turn a profit so the ‘pons can get as much money as possible in the sale.

If you are looking into buying a businees, you should probably find out if you can indeed turn a profit with it?

  • Is that the actual picture from yesterday or just some random picture taken some time last year? I find it hard to believe that was taken yesterday. I was at Citi Field in 2009 when tickets went on sale for first time and there were hundreds of people there around noon time, it was a madhouse. Therey also had a few former players there keeping us happy and entertained and signing autographs.

  • You also have to keep in mind that, unlike in past years (where everything opened at the same time) the internet sales actually opened a day early. So even less incentive for people to go to the park to get tickets.

Unless you happened to be right in the area anyway, the only reason to show up in person is to save the per ticket handling fee. For most out of towners, it is probably cheaper to order on line and pay the fees!

  • I suspect there are a whole lot less tickets being sold since it isn’t the first year of the new park. And of course, they are simply selling fewer tickets!

  • now, i dont know about you guys but i much rather prefer the actual ticket than the internet paper that comes out.. but yes with the internet and discounts that people find online does hurt the line. personally.. i enjoy the thrill of waiting and finally buying a ticket and showing it off to people that i am going to see the mets, but that is just me.
