Great read JoeD and thanks to Mike for giving us the inside on the up and coming players in minors for Mets.
I hope that somehow Kirk makes the team down the road but with Bay there, Pagan in CF and Martinez and Duda ahead of him he might be used to bring us back some pitching either for major league team or as prospect for minors.

Matt Harvey … flashed 3 potential plus pitches (fastball slider curveball). He has the potential to be a top flight major league pitcher. The best overall stuff of all the pitchers I saw. Matt Harvey: Boom. Front line stuff with all the potential in the world. He gets his first taste of the minor leagues in 2011.

Which pitching prospect will have the better major league career, Jenrry Mejia or Matt Harvey? I will say Mejia. Better fastball, and he already has made it to the big league. Mejia is also 7 months younger than Harvey, and has already proven himself as a pro.

My words:
Mejia has what’s being described as an average (mediocre) curve and has command issues and durability issues. His seven months younger age is negligible in my book. He has a great fastball for a few innings and then his velocity diminishes.

So how is he better than a guy who Mike said was the most impressive of all the players he saw? Something doesn’t add up.

as to the 2013 line up, I am guessing Pagan won’t be there (that being the year he starts his first FA contract), and hope that by then bay has moved along!

I’m no expert but from the little I saw of him I remember him making some great plays in leftfield last season. So much so that Gary Cohen said that rumors of his lack of defense have been greatly exaggerated.

I am very excited to see Matt Harvey and I hope he comes along fast like Pelfrey did. I know a lot of people are down on our minor leagues, but I like what it has produced lately and I think Ike Davis and Jon Niese will become allstars.
