Good post Joe.
I saw that Dillon Gee was in consideration for 5th spot also, he looked good at end of 2010 especially against Bravos.

Good to see the youngsters holding their own as they prepare to assume more important roles on this team. I am truly impressed with Thole and Duda, especially Duda showing that he can hit at the major league level.

The ultimate bright spot would be the dismissal of Ollie and/or Luis.

There is no doubt that our eight position players have enough talent to play some good baseball. They are a good mixture of youth and veterans. A healthy and resurgent Jason Bay will be a big help. Carlos Beltran’s knees?

We do have a high quality closer with a lot to prove but it will all come down to starting pitching. To count on Santana for this year is foolish. We are once again depending on a lot of if’s with our staff. Chris Young, and Chris Capuano need to be healthy and our young guys (Pelfrey and Neese) need to step forward. Last years surprise, R.A. Dickey has to show that his performance last year was no fluke especially at age 35….

I w0ould like to see Sandy Alderson send Castillo and Perez packing. Their situation cannot be good for team moral at all. Dumping them and just “swallowing their contracts” would send a message to the team AND TO THE FANS who want them gone!

It’s so good to hear how well Ike Davis is doing, I feel he will be our first baseman for years and years to come. Collins gave him a great compliment yesterday when he was asked about second base he said that with Ike Davis at first base, range at second base becomes less of a concern. I’m also glad to see Izzy doing well, but I hope his relationship wont be the reason he makes the team. I want them to stick to their mantra of only bringing the best 25 players.

Ah, the parrot starting off a new work week by playing while someone is paying him to work. You should get a very good performance review. Afterall since all you do is play at work you can’t screw anything up. Lucky company.

Good article Joe and let’s hope these signs of hope in ST transition to excellence during the upcoming season. If so, it will be more than a pleasant surprise. We’ve had too many seasons of unhappy surprises, perhaps we’re due for a string of positive surprises. How great would that be!
