Mets Notes: Jenrry Mejia Optioned To Minors

MEJIA TO MINORS

The Mets announced via Twitter that they have optioned RHP Jenrry Mejia to minor league camp. They now have 22 pitchers in camp which includes 7 non-roster invitations.

REAR VIEW MIRROR:

First things first, according to Andy McCullough of NJ.com, Ike Davis is fine after being involved in a car accident this afternoon.

Ike Davis said he was not injured after being involved in a minor car accident on US-1 here on Monday afternoon. He was rear-ended as he drove to go fishing on the team’s off-day. His car was still “fine,” Davis said.

Be careful out there Ike.

HU IS NOT ON SECOND:

Regarding the whole Luis Hernandez/second base thing, no denials yest from the Mets who usually jump right out and say something if a reporter gets it wrong. But Andy Martino of the Daily News does add this:

From talking to people today, definitely do no get sense TC has decided on Hernandez for 2B. He’s in mix, but this is a fluid situation.

So who knows? I was actually hoping to hear a strong denial which didn’t come, so maybe the NY Post finally got something right for a change.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN:

There are currently 46 players in major league camp, including 12 non-roster invitees. Here is the breakdown:

• Pitchers – 23 total (seven non-roster)
• Catchers – 5 total (two non-roster)
• Infielders – 10 total (one non-roster)
• Outfielders – 8 total (two non-roster)

GETS BY BUCKNER:

Hey did you know that Mookie Wilson started his own blog? It’s called Mookie’s View and here is an excerpt from his first post:

How did I get to this point in life in spite of all the restrictions and limitations confronting people like myself in the early 70’s? The social and cultural limitations were enough to cause most people to call it quits. Yet! Here I am with a family, two college degrees and a career in professional sports. Don’t misunderstand me as having a sad childhood, just noting that it was a struggle.

TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT:

The Mets play their one and only night game of the spring against the Nationals. Here is tonights lineup:

1. Jose Reyes, SS
2. Luis Castillo, 2B
3. Angel Pagan, CF
4. David Wright, 3B
5. Jason Bay, LF
6. Ike Davis, 1B
7. Willie Harris, RF
8. Josh Thole, C
9. Chris Young, P

Also expected to pitch are Oliver Perez, Taylor Tankersley, Pedro Beato, Blaine Boyer, Francisco Rodriguez, Jason Isringhausen.

  • Luis Hernandez!!! What’s wrong with that stupid idiot Collins? Is he out of his mind?!

    • Thank you moderator. I don’t know what came over me.

  • Boo…..the one night game at home and it’s not televised? Guess I’ll be following on GameDay.

I see Ollie’s slated to pitch tonight. Heard earlier he’s slated to pitch Friday as well. They’re sure getting a good, long look.

  • Mejia now gets to show every1 why this will be his last year in AAA or at least I hope he does.

    • Jenrry will do what really was a 2010 priority for most Mets fans.

Minor league experience can only help. He will work on his curveball and his overall command.

  • lead off double by wright. Bay hits to ss failing to advance runner. Ike’s finds daylight between bat and ball as he strikes out (something he did a lot of last year) – so Mets fail to get runner home after leadoff double – sound familiar?

    • did I mention what a good hitter Ike Davis is? Hehe

  • Nice showing by Young tonight. 5 1/3 innings, 1 run 4 hits.

Had to laugh when he was replaced by Perez, who promptly walked the first batter he faced. Some things never change…He got 2 outs to follow though.

How can you have a lefty specialist coming out of the BP who normally is one of the top leaders in walks?

    • you can’t. Someone needs to point that out to Sandy!
