Bad analogy t agee. Darren O'Day had AAA experience and 40 games in the majors when he was picked up in Rule 5 and a career 2.76 ERA in minors.

Absolutely, NO comparison to Beato who has NEVER pithed above AA has a career 4.26 ERA in minors.

O'Day was well worth keeping, Beato is not.

If Alderson simply wants a a guy whose got a mid nineties fastball and no control, the sandlots and independent leagues are full of them.

Truth is Beato could actually benefit from going down, Parnell it could actually be a setback to his mental game which is very important for a guy like him trying to fill the 8th Inning role and possibly closer if and when K-Rod is gone.

I would rather give away one of those 2B guys who didn't work out and get Beato's options so we can send him down and keep Parnell up.

Sending Parnell down simply because you can sends a very bad message to the players.
Basically it says it doesn't matter how good you do in the Big Leagues it's more important for the GM to have a soft spot for you.

Not a message we want to convey to guys we all said didn't show the effort needed to win last year!

Why?
With the uncertainty and lack of credible options at 2B, and RF/Beltran, I'm guessing he wants as much bench flexibility there since he is going to be making lots of changes at those two spots early in the season.
at least until such time that someone takes ownership of the 2B position.

He won't need a lot of Pen early. Mostly Mid game long relief to cover for early starter exits, but that doesn't mean a lot of quantity. Just a few guys who can eat some middle innings. K-Rod is the closer and we have plenty of guys who could fill Parnell's 8th inning role early.

What to do, what to do, what to do?

If Parnell has options he may in the end just go down for the short term.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

We cannot afford to lose anybody. If the FO wants Beato so bad let 'em do what Metsie suggested, trade them something for him. At least explore the idea or trade him somewhere else and at least get something for him. An up and coming team like Texas, or KC, SF and Philly have a dinged closer, maybe they like him at the back of their pen and move everyone up. SD traded two of their relief pitchers to FL and they might have a spot.

If we cannot make a deal with Baltimore and cannot keep him on our roster we could at the very least use him to help address other needs. Whoever traded for him would then need to keep him on THEIR roster. Personally I think we need a guy like Acosta in the pen and at 29 could very well get better over the next few years.

I never believed Izzy had a chance, thought they were milking it for a few extra ticket sales. You know how some fans love nostalgia even though Izzy was more a case of a nightmarish era like you say.

This will be Sandy Alderson's Heath Bell moment. Only Manny Acosta gave the Mets an actual solid season to go by, whereas Bell did not give Minaya any reason to keep him. Go ahead Sandy, keep the Rule 5 pick who couldn't make it onto the Baltimore Orioles 40 man roster, and let the experienced polished reliever go.

An 8 man bullpen? In April with off days and rain outs? If Manny Acosta is too good too lose, then he should be on the team, instead of stockpiling it with 38 year old feel good stories. Personally, I don't think he is worth worrying about. Inconsistent at best, mediocre to a core. On the other hand, if Jason Isringhausen costs the team a guy with talent who will be in the bigs for a while the front office gets a fail. All he is a memmory of a failed era.

I wonder why Terry would object to an 8 man BP for a short duration to start the season?
Then again, that might be too small a sample size to make any kind of determination.

I'm reading Izzy won't accept a minor league assignment. How about the DL then while he builds up arm strength? You could justify that given the recent fact of inflammation.
