Bottom line is he should stay in AAA all year to show he can play a season without getting hurt and then decide on what to do with him if Beltran is gone and there is no credible replacement bat in FA.

He's still young (in DR years which is kind of like dog years only less drool) and will be promoted based on what he does in AAA compared to what is available in FA once Beltran's contract comes off the books.

If Beltran gets traded midseason and F-Mart is healthy we may see him then but he really needs to prove he can stay healthy and then prove he can hit in the ML!

I agree with you, but the FO doesn't always do what we tell them to!

I also think it depends on how serious the injury is. If the reasonable prognosis is he is back by 4/9, they will just plug in someone else. if it turns out he needs a couple months (and no, not seeing that anywhere!) they might go with a more LT solution.

I'd leave him in AAA. There are other guys that can step in and play. Like Duda, Hairston, and Harris. I'm not saying the last two will be anything spectacular. They just need to be replacement level till Bay returns.

Like I said, F Mart really looked like a much more mature (ready) player, and has certainly produced all spring. I just wonder if the Mets are willing to make the move this soon, instead of seeing how he does for a few months in AAA.

NP.

I am curious to know if moving to the Phillies will change his attitude (the pouting or crumbling about not being a starter) if they have him sitting on the bench a lot.

Not sure though if they have made a final decision, but I certainly am not more afraid of the Phils if they are rolling with Castillo instead of Utley!

I was figuring already they would probably use quite a few guys in the OF this year, and 2B. But, if done right, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. And it really depends on the manager to handle it right, and I suspect Terry has a better shot at doing that over Jerry!

platoon as needed, play the hot hand, stuff like that.

most teams go through that with at least 1 position any given year.

now, if they start trading off starters, all bets are off!

stick i forgot to tell you good call on our discussion about Castillo the other day, you were right i completely screwed up his ABs. I didn't notice the first season of 199 ABs he also played with Minn that year so it was a full season. And i also mixed up 2009 & 2010 ABs. I still think that if he makes the Phillies he would hit pretty good in limited play.

Something tells me we're going to see a revolving door in the OF this year, especially at the corners. And even more so if Beltran is dealt at the trade deadline.

If FMart can manage to stay on the field this first half, now is as good a time as any to see what he brings to the table.

I wont write him off as a potential major leaguer some day, but the comparisons to Juan Gonzalez and even Roberto Clemente, were just too way over the top and there was never any evidence that he had that kind of potential. he's already lost value simply because they determined he wasn't the centerfielder of the future as first paraded, and now a corner outfelder. He gets terrible jumps on balls which we all saw, but used his speed to recover nicely almost having to make a diving catch on many routine plays. That was in 2009, now he has arthritic knees at 22. He seems to fullfil more of the downside in him than his upside and the more I see of him the more I'm reminded of Alex Ochoa and Alex Escobar.

from seeing him play a few times this spring, he really did look like a new man. More mature, or "all growed up". Better plate discipline, confident, just all around more serious as a player.

and who knows. Depending on what happens with Bay (DL), if he has a couple more big days like today, his next chance might start friday in Miami!

He has been a product of hype from the day the Mets first signed him. Teenage hitting sensation or whatever they called him, he immediately climbed to #1 Mets prospect in a matter of weeks, not a difficult task considering what they had. Anybody miss Mike Carp and Kevin Mulvey?

Based on that hype BA had him pegged as a top 20 prospect, as the months passed and the more they saw, he kept dropping and dropping until he doesn't even appear in the MLB 100.

He had no record to look back upon in college or high school. Absolutely nothing but the fact he could hit rocks with sticks in a dust bowl in DR.

You want real prospects look at Ike Davis, Matt Harvey, Captain Kirk and Reese Havens. Players who established their value with performance in college and high school.

Ten years from now we'll probably find out that F-Mart was actually 21 when Mets found him and not 16. A common occurrence in the DR, so much so that 2 years after F-Mart was drafted MLB clamped down and now demand verifiable birth records and have an oversight committee stationed there that Alderson himself headed.
