Starting last season with Maine and Perez would have had to be considered pretty high risk in my opinion. Escobar wasn't expected to help in the rotation, if at all. He was for the pen. Dickey was a great sign but I don't think anyone was looking forward to bringing him up.

The whole focus last year was getting some HR's. Fixing a perceived failure from the year before. Nothing on turning 2 injured/bad pitchers into just one spot in the rotation instead of two. One year of Bay would have been 2 years of Pinero and either a resign or a pick up of two #1 draft choices (where the best players are found) Nothing on Castillo, hopeful on Francouer, hopeful on Murphy at 1B. simply ridiculous on plan B for 1B and CF as well as the bench in general. Forget about bringing Mejia north, limiting him to just one pitch and putting him in the pen. The less said about having a roster spot for a DH in the NL the better.

Overall it looks to me like we have addressed everything as well as possible considering the lack of resources, the number of deficiencies and the lack of any suitable options at 2B in the off season.

I find it amusing how you would say that. Why just as recent as yesterday Bayonne had a exchange with another member of the MMO community for saying Bayonne had said he wanted Alderson fired.

In that exchange all Bayonne kept saying was show him where he ever said such a thing over and over and over.

Here I am making a comment based on something I recall him saying and so he can't say the same to me and ask me to show where he ever said it I actually post his words so not to be accused of lying or misinterpreting his words. Now you come and decide to say that I was wrong in doing so?

I have to wonder why you would have such a personal reaction to this?

Considering you just felt the need to call me a "sick, jerk, person that writes manure and ruins the site for everyone" all for making an observation and asking a question while also pointing to when it was said so there is no misinterpretation of a person that just recently asked for proof of them saying something. I find your reply having very little substance.

I know Joe D's site well enough to know that most of it's community is made up of people that respect everyone's opinion enough to know how to act when those times occur when they disagree with each other. Here is what they don't do. They don't call each other sick or jerk or persons that write manure and ruins the site for everyone.

They make their case why they disagree showing each other respect in doing so. You can learn a lot from them. I hope you can learn to act as good as most of the MMO community does. Right now your doing a poor job.

yeah, those guys are big. And I am one of the other few that think the pitching will actually be pretty good this year (if they don't all hit the DL pile together, of course). Even without Johan, overall, the pitching to me looks better (pen and rotation) than it did last year.

anyway,as to the bats. the mets won 79 games, with the real Beltran really only around for 1 month, and the real Bay never there. they also lost IIRC 30 1 run games.

So, think about how many extra runs a career average bay, or the Beltran from September for much of the year, would have produced. And quite likely, some number of them would have converted some of those close losses to wins.

so realistically, those black holes of production alone could have tanked them from mid-80s to 79 wins.

I am surprised to see you say Bay and Beltran are bigger keys than the pitching and that you think the starting pitching is not going to be as bad as some think. Especially when you said the Mets season could end quickly if Young or Capuano re-injured themselves.

I remember using the term High risk high reward in saying how the Mets had no room for error when signing Young and Capuano because if they re-injure themselves the Mets season could be over quickly.

I guess since you think the starting pitching is not gonna be as bad as some people think. You now see Young and Capuano as low risk high reward?

"I wouldn’t call the off season “Solid” although I know why you blindly all it that.

It wound up getting a little better but not “solid”. I wouldn’t all 2 “high-risk, high reward” pitching signings “solid”. Yes it’s high risk, high reward and not “low risk, high reward” because the Mets have no room for error. None. If any of those 2 pitchers or both of them reinjure themselves the the season could be over quickly."

There are a fair amount of Met fans that want him gone, just for the antics alone last year, never mind the contract.

I've read enough comments around the Met blog sphere that leads me to believe since some don't believe this team is going anywhere this year anyway, KRod stinking it up would be just fine with them. Gives them a legitimate reason to sit him down so the option doesn't vest.

Part of the reason for some of these positives - such as the mindset change in minor league development, is the turn over in the FO and the sweeping changes across the minor league system and scouting.

It might have been money driven and a last ditch effort to retain ownership of their franchise, but I have to give the Wilpons credit for ditching what wasn't working and putting in a FO that may very well turn this around sooner rather than later.

Of course, it might not be their team anymore when that happens.....

Im also very interested in what the management does with the prospects. Which position does Flores play?? Do any of the pitching guys take a step forward, like Cohoon did last year? Is our A-Rod for real?? Will Urbina be our next year starter??? Which one of the outfield propects has the best year?? Niewenhuis,F-mart,Ceccialli,Vaughn,Den Dekker,Puello.
Cant wait to see this upcoming season

unsure about the "best outfield group in the entire National League." Bay is a good, but has not done anything as a Met. Pagan has been solid, but not all-star numbers. Beltran has bad knees and does not look very good
