i can’t seriously believe that someone would rush to buy a ticket because they found out that oliver perez was released.

anyone who follows the mets close enough to even care was going to buy that ticket regardless.

the only reason that ollie was left on the team was because he is lefty.. other than that he has no value.. when he bombed against the nats, i knew that was it.. it better be it.. i wont be surprised to see that he gets cut and ticket sales go up dramatically.

A REAL fan roots for his team and the players that comprise it to do well no matter what!

Some fans I feel were actually rooting for Castillo and Perez to fail (in essence rooting against the team they claim to love) so they could see them sent packing!

If they spent enough time rooting FOR the players to do well instead of boycotting games and complaining about them the team might actually rise to the occassion and win something for them!

I used to be a musician. I always had my best performances when the house was packed.
When it was empty it was about as good as the average practice!
Maybe some of us should be more concerned if WE are doing enough to help the cause instead of rooting for the few players who aren’t to get fired!

Cause if fandom had a minor leagues a lot of people who post here would be sent down as career Minor league fans!

Nice comments Metsie. It is very depressing to see these posts that are filled with seemingly endless hate. Unfortunately, it seems to have become the way of Mets fans. Why does there have to be so much hate toward our players? Did Castilo or Perez commit any crimes? Was accepting an offer above their value something any of these posters would not have done themselves. Did they break laws or rules? Do these fans get hated on at their jobs? Now, instead of trying to enjoy the game of baseball these hateful fans will have to pick out their next target!!! What Met player will be most hated? That will be the entertainment for these fans. And look out Mr Alderson and Mr Collins. these same fans that love you today were in love with Mr Minaya and Mr Randolph and then Mr Manuel not many years ago. Met fans need a collective chill pill.

And thats what people have been praying for?
Adding another person to the unemployment line?

In my experience and catholic upbringing God doesn’t answer those who forget the “We forgive those who trespass against us” part of the prayer…

Usually if you are praying for someone to have something bad happen to them your praying to Satan!

Just trying to put some perspective on the desire to see people going through hardships.

Castillo asked to be cut! It was clear that despite his being better than his competition that he was not going to get the job!

So he wanted out so he could find someone who wouldn’t look at him with Biased eyes.

I have been saying since November that Perez would last till the very end of ST. For the simple reason , if I was paying him why would I want him to have an opportunity to go else where. (not out of fear he will do good, but simply because why help him when he’s done nothing for his money)He’ll be gone this week

I don’t know about that.
From everything I’ve been reading Perez still thinks of himself as a starter. I can believe he’d rather be released as he probably thinks some other team will pick him up as a starter.

I kind of feel badly for him. He’s really trying but it’s just not working out. I think his only possibility of remaining with the Mets is if they take him off 40-man roster, put him through waivers, and give him opportunity to make good this time by going to the minors or even the instructional league to regain his velocity if the rules allow such moves. I think another team will give him a chance on minor league deal, so he has to decide where he wants to be to save his career.

And for anyone who believes that Ollie would enjoy being released, going home to play computer games, that’s just nonsense, a resentful fan’s anger misdirected.

I actually thought once the rumor started that Luis Hernandez is injured that Castillo might make the squad. Obviously that was not the case.

I think they are giving Oli every last chance possible to show some signs of life in that arm before cutting him and cutting the $12 million check.

I must admit that I was skeptical that either of these two would be cut. I was convinced that we would start the season with both of them on the roster. My faith in the team has been restored and maybe now I can just relax and enjoy the season without their distraction.

Hard to believe that Castillo was the 1st to go as he was having a decent spring. Unfortunately for him he couldn’t compete for the LOOGY role! LOL As for Perez, no need to keep this slacker around any longer. It’ll be a good thing for Perez as he can go home to Mexico and play his PS2 or Xbox 360 with all the free time he’ll have on his hands. My parting advice to Ollie: don’t go sitting by the phone waiting for another ML team to call. Not even Scott Boras can put together a golden enough binder of glowing adjectives about Perez to get him another big league job. So long Ollie and GOOD RIDDANCE!
