All I still wish to say is while the comments are noteworthy regarding Collins feelings about Duda. The kid still has to prove Collins right in feeling the way he does. Something that I too need to see more of than what i saw the last 2 weeks of the season.

But like you said if he is indeed ROY I will give you all the praise you deserve and also Met Maniac cause he too said he felt Duda was definitely ready for the Bigs.

Wow! Collins quote about Duda. Very interesting indeed.

“I’m hoping like mad that Carlos Beltran can be out there quite a bit,” Collins said. “But if something happens, this guy (Duda) has shown this spring that his bat’s dangerous, so I need to find a place for him if that happens.”

Those are words that definitely in my opinion merit taking note of. Especially when Duda a Left Fielder played Right Field today.

Here is another quote about Duda by catcher Mike Nickeas.

“It seemed like every time we had a guy on base that needed scoring, he was up there driving him in,” Nickeas said of Duda’s Minor League exploits last summer. “He’s a clutch hitter. He’s a hard-nosed player. I’d love to have him on my team anytime.”

Ask anyone who has had one Knee surgery…the Second Knee isn’t usually far behind.

You compensate and the rehab is always focused on the bad knee and the good one quickly digresses from the strain.

Reyes had the same issues last year. Spent all his time working on the legs that his upper body work was lessened to increase the leg work.

And the Oblique cried out with the lack of attention.

Strawberry was and probably still is a bum. If you can get an out of print book, “High and Tight”, read it to see what a turkey the Straw Man has been. He is the prototypical player who thought his entitlements would be endless.

Carlos Beltran has been a warrior for us, just like Johan and David Whatever time and space Carlos now needs, he should get. Having said this, I think the team and Carlos need to start some frank talks with each side laying out the respecive goals, so thet hopefully a deal could be struck about how to go forward for the benefit of all parties. This mutual decision might include a trade or a reduced compensation contract for the next 1-3 years. My thought is that Carlos would make a helluva DH and part-time defensive player for an American League team.

I think the most logical replacements for Beltran would be: 1) FMart if he doesn’t hurt himself again. 2) Nick Evans, the guy can hit, but RF would be a work in progress defensively. 3) Big Duda, lotsa pop, can play corner outfield, but, very slow. 4) Hairston/Harris. Personally, I’d rather see an everyday platoon of FMart/Evans, over H & H.

He’s the Joe Namath of the Mets.

If he plays occasionally through May, it would be great to let him go DH, and set our sites on a high-quality SP, were we able to bundle Beltran with a couple of mediocrities.

He’s off the entire winter, we went through Thanksgiving, snowstorms, the holidays, a whole month of February…there was no testing of the knee during that time and now he still needs days off? Not good.

You’re kidding, right? Martinez has only been healthy enough to play 90 games in a minor league season once…and his minor league numbers aren’t very good, the Mets just market him a lot which has caused him to be overvalued by Mets fans. If there is an opportunity to be seized for a Mets minor leaguer to shine, its for Lucas Duda, Nick Evans, Jason Pridie, or Kirk Niewenhuis.

He was just shut down since October…now after 1 game (as a DH), he needs 4-5 days off…bad sign. Best case scenario, Beltran plays around 100 games this season. At least the Mets got 3 great seasons out of that 7 year contract.
