The Less Than Magnificent Seven

Only 48 hours until pitchers and catchers report and a new season of Mets baseball gets underway.
Last week, former Governor Patterson was a guest of Steve Somers on WFAN.
At one point during the show, Somers said “Hard to believe that we are only one week away before Mets pitchers and catchers report”.
Governor Patterson chuckled and then responded, “Steve, I think you meant to say one week until catchers report, the Mets have no pitchers.”
I beg to differ with you governor.
We will have some good arms in R.A. Dickey and Jon Niese, and Mike Pelfrey will get the Opening Day nod. Not exactly the cream of the crop, but they’re not chopped liver either. They are each solid and can hopefully hold the fort down until Johan Santana comes back.
As for the other two remaining spots, they will be filled from this group of less than magnificent seven.
1. Chris Capuano
2. Chris Young
3. D.J. Carrasco
4. Pat Misch
5. Boof Bonser
6. Oliver Perez
7. Dillon Gee
Here’s a scary thought. What if Oliver Perez out-pitches all of them?

I guess the governor didn’t notice the 15 game winner last year, nor RA Dickey or perhaps the one hitter by Niese.
well, not wanting to be mean or anything, but he certainly did not see any games.
Hahahahaahahaha!! “he certainly did not see any games.” Classic!
I was actually avoiding saying that word but I’m glad someone did – hahahahahahah
Ollie Perez couldn’t Pitch French Fries at McDonalds
Great movie though
that montly crew insires me to buy Brooklyn Cyclones tickets instead. lol
if young and capuano are nominally healthy and produce at around their career norms, they will actually be one of the better 4-5 duos out there.
many teams have really, really bad back end starters.
now, if they get down to someone like Carrasco starting, then I will be worried.
i think the sleeper here is Dillon Gee he seems to grasp Pitching knowing your self and how to use your capabilities to the best. I like what i hear . I like Jon Niece. as one person says if Young and Cap pitch to their capabilities they may do well we need pitching i do believe our hitting if it stays healthy will be better then last year.
Oh my goodness! The back of the rotation is questionable!
It should be easy to line up 5 Cy Young award winners to start for you. They are all over the free agent market. Hell, they just fall out of the sky!

I just finished watching “The Last Play At Shea” and I have 2 words to describe it.
MUST SEE!
As a Mets fan you can’t help but be sucked into reliving the emotions you felt as you watch great moments in Mets history being retold with Billy Joel music being played in the background.
AMAZING!
I totally agree
As long as Chris and Chris are healthy, they will definitely be SP4 and SP5. Gee is the first one in there if anyone falters or gets hurt. I’m sure Gee will see plenty of work this season. Misch will probably be the long man in the pen. I see Carrasco in the bullpen too, and Ollie Pee will soon be out-of-baseball. Boof Bonser? Really?
just the way I see it too.
Who if any gets released 1st Castillo or Ollie?
Ollie, I actually expect Castillo to win the starting 2B job believe it or not.
Neither. It’s not the Wilpon way to pay people significant sums of money to not work. I think Castillo will be the starting 2B and Ollie will sit in the pen. The Wilpon may be frosted at Ollie collecting the big bucks, but it will be the field manager’s discretion as to whether or not he actually gets used in game situations. In that regard, barring a miracle, there is no reason to believe the current mgr will do anything different in this regard than the former one. Just my opinion and no need to preach to me from the pulpit.
Or maybe the Wilpons finally figure out the concept of “dead money” and realize that wasting roster spots on 2 guys who are not capable on a MLB level.
I lost all trust in the Wilpons and Omar in August when Perez was on the roster and never pitched (for good reason) the Mets were playing with a 24 man roster, something they frequently did with Omar.
