Nothing would make me happier than to see our Baby Mets impress so much that they actually make the team.

Thole at catcher
Ike at 1st
Tejada at 2b
Reyes at ss
Wright at 3rd
Duda in LF?
Evans off the bench
Murphy off the bench
Pelfre, Niese, Mejia and Gee on the rotation
Parnell in the pen

That would be awesome. At the same time if some of them are meant to play in the minors a bit longer I am cool with it.

ST is for pitchers to throw, strengthen their arms, work on stuff they may have worked on in the winter and get back in baseball shape.

Last year Pelfrey got knocked around but he didn't care. He was working on his new splitter. Got it under control and had some success with it in April and May. It's a good pitch for him to have to keep LH hitters from elevating his 2 seamer.

The fact that anybody on the 40 could drive a BP fastball on the first day of spring workouts shouldn't really come as a huge surprise to anyone.

I'm more interested in where that splitter went after he tucked it away in mid July and very interested to see if Tejada has re worked his batting stance at all.

Tejada hit well enough in 2009 in AA but while he didn't look over matched up here he certainly did not look right from a technique stand point to me. His bat wrapped around his neck, swinging at up in the zone semi strikes he couldn't get on top of, it looked like he was going Rey Ordonez on us.

He does have a good eye and a short compact swing though and I'm sure the errors will go down with more experience. He has the talent and instincts, now if he can just lay off the high strike.....

ST can only mean so much. It is part of the puzzle, but not the only )or neccesarily the biggest) part of the player's histroy and body of work.

where do you draw the line? If Duda has a monster spring, does he win the starting job over pagan? Bay? Ike?

again, the team never said that Tejada WILL be in AAA. They said they prefer him (and expect him) to be there. With the caveat that things could change in ST, as always.

I would be far more worried if the FO worked under the A.E.N. plan (what, me worry?), and just said nah, we won't plan ahead, just wait until the end of ST and decide how guys should be handled.

every team (not jsut saber ones) makes plans for thier young prospects, and go into ST with some sort of tentative roster (depth chart). Guys that were not obviously ready the end of the prior year will normally be budgeted to be in the minors. COmpletely normal, old school BB management. Even guys with no math skills at all do that!

setting expectations is not a bad thing. Part of that is giving guys things they need to work on and master if they want to move up.

but of course, every year in ST there are surprises (good and bad), and tentative plans change. A guy like tejada might come in transformed, and blow everyone else out of the water, and make the team. Someone they are expecting to be on the roster might look like total crap and get bumped.

wich is why all the statements were caveated with "as of now, subject to change" in some form. Although I still say pitchers are different, since there are more often requirements for building up innings pitched (to make the rotation).

also just silly to say that a prospect will become crushed and not perform if they are told in advance they are most likely starting in AAA. If anything, it should make them try harder to prove them wrong.

consider it a ball check. If you tell a guy he won't, and he crawls up into the fetal position and does not even try, you don't want him around anyone. But, if he gives them a big F.U, and goes out and dares them to send him down, then he has stones!

Hmm so if Tejada homers in the 8th game of Spring Training and Bay would have said the exact same thing would I have replied the same as well?

Yes i have to agree with you Maniac. I would of said the following most likely.

"Yea cause that is why they wanted Tejada to go down to AAA to gain muscle.

Cmon it’s about showing he can hold his own against MLB pitching. Hitting a hr on the 8th game of Spring Training vs Pelf means just as much as if he K’d which is “nothing”."

"but I’m not going to wave someone like Tejada off simply because of Collin’s and Alderson’s inane comments which have more holes than a sieve."

I take it you don't approve of Tejada being relegated to AAA from this?

I understand wanting to see a Baby Met make the team over a Emaus or a Hu. I would love to find out that Tejada will be considered for the starting 2b job as well but at the same time I understand the wanting to see him show he can handle AAA pitching 1st as well.

Hey Hojo,

I called Citi Field today but offices were closed due to Holiday so I'll call tomorrow and let you know what happens. I hope they let me buy it even though the store doesn't open until March 6.

And my friend calls me, lays a bombshell that he bought the Caesar Gold plan so it looks like I'm gonna shell out some bucks after all for an 11 game package..but in good seats.

Just hope Saber Sandy doesn't expect Mets fans to be as cost conscience and cheap as he appears to be.
So Tejada added some muscle? Nice. Funny how Spring Training games seem to turn out some surprises too bad our ownership feels they have to make decisions based on what happened last year. Not bright if u ask me....but i'm not too bright either shelling out the cash anyway....but Citi Field, notwithstanding the dimensions, IS a very nice park with top of the line food & drinks so it's hard to resist.
