Scouting Book’s Top Mets Prospects for 2011

Here’s a look at Scouting Book’s Top Mets Propsects for 2011. It’s actually the first prospect list I’ve seen this year that still has Fernando Martinez has the top ranked outfielder in the system.

1. Jenrry Mejia RHP (#54 overall)

2. Wilmer Flores SS (#74 overall)

3. Reese Havens SS (#142 overall)

4. Fernando Martinez OF (#150 overall)

5. Dillon Gee RHP (#159 overall)

6. Matt Harvey RHP (#166 overall)

7. Kirk Nieuwenhuis OF (#169 overall)

8. Lucas Duda OF (#186 overall)

9. Bradley Holt RHP (#200 overall)

10. Cesar Puello OF (#216 overall)

Scouting Book goes on to say that the Mets farm system is one of baseball’s weakest and closes with the following:

The brightest star in the system, enigmatic Jennry Mejia, was mishandled so badly in 2010 that it’s a wonder he’s still a prospect at all. As the Mets hopefully lay off their young pitcher and simply let the boy throw, a small number of other prospects with strong upsides will hope that their own futures won’t be handled quite as callously.

  • I like how some people want to start the 186 overall prospect in left over a 2 time all star who is 32 years old.

    • Is Bay your son or something? Because he sucks. He should never have been signed in the first place and for anyone to defend him at this point, is ludicrous. Congratulations.

      • sucks maybe. but relative to duda, he’s ted effin williams

      • Exactly when did Jason Bay start as you say sucking?

How does a guy that has averaged over 8 seasons:

        .278/BA
        .374/OBP
        .508/SLG
        162/H
        34/2B
        30/HR
        105/RBI
        100/R
        85/BB
        157/SO

        A player that sucks?

  • My bad – three time all star.

  • And some of you guys wonder why this Organization has drafted, signed and developed only ONE LFer, CFer, RFer, 3B, 2B, C who made the All Star team for us and Zero 1B and only 2 SS’s.

Bad scouting, bad drafting, not signing good draft choices, not going over slot to get the best players, not developing our prospects correctly and giving away our high draft choices for the most expensive, injury prone and unproductive years of other teams players.

    • ZZZZZZZZ.. When you make it to 2 million of the same worn out, boring, irrelevant, anti-met posts will you stop?
Here’s the t agee line. If Sandy Alderson didn’t get the guy, he sucks. If Sandy Alderson got the guy, he’s great. The whole world knows you are on the payroll t agee, try somewwhere else where they won’t figure it out for 500,000 posts.

      • I said the samething before Alderson was hired that I’m saying now. Alderson wasn’t even my 1st 2nd or 3rd choice as GM.

It may be over Harry’s head but most people understand that when over a 49 year period you should have drafted (and signed) more than 1 all star player at every position. We have on average 1 allstar at all 8 positions over almost 50 years.

The more you have to rely on free agency the more mistakes you will make. The more mistakes you make the more the need for inexpensice help from the farm becomes vital.

The more picks you give away the less chance of developing your own All Stars and having their best years, inexpensively. Also the more your forced in future years to risk the free agent market as well.

Without having 5 or 6 All Star possibles gleaned from your system a Cliff Lee
isn’t going to have enough of an impact to bring in forget a Moises Alou or another 40 year old position player.

      • “ZZZZZZZZ.. When you make it to 2 million of the same worn out, boring, irrelevant, anti-met posts will you stop?”

        anybody else find that funny?

        • It’s quite……….ironical?

          • It’s like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.

            • My sister-in-law is getting married tomorrow, and the forecast called for rain earlier in the week. That’s the practical application of one Mr. Harry C in this context. However, the forecast seems to have changed and now the precipitation will have stopped. Much like how we all wish Harry C. would.
