They should write in Jason Pridie’s righteous beard as the new clean up hitter.
I thought his beard was funny. Usually you see something like that on a pitcher (RP especially) or a big slugger type. Not on a guy that is supposed to be a slap hitting speedy CF
Emaus is the wild card there. But, if among the options they can piece together a productive 2B, that is potentially a very strong lineup, and easily the best they have run out there is years.
To be completely honest, I could see Havens out there in a month after ST. Similar to what we did with Davis.
Undserstand wheer u r coming from; but the sense of dsperate urgency by a GM/Mgr geasping for straws like last yr won’t be there this yr & theere’s more than enough candidates to tryout @ 2B in Emaus, Murphy, Turner, Hu, Adams in case of Emergency. It’s good to remember that outside of TC the entire decision staff(Aldersonm, Riccardi, DiPodesta were NOT Met fans before being hired only months ago & are likely wanting acclimation time to observe & evaluate what they have & rushing players when there are other options does not look like it’s this team’s plan anymore(see Mejia,Tejada already ticketed to Farm). Bernazard & Minaya are both history & their cautionary tale resonates in Flushing.
Its Terrys choice. Where does Emaus get to be in the projected lineup. Murphy will be the one.
IF he can play 2B.
THINK PLATOON, JERRY openner in FL will be LH Josh Johnson, ergo Murph’s riding pine.
By the way MOJO thats a MLB writer nots the Mets Club projecting the lineup as you state. He is just using his own opinion. Please correct you statement.Mets.com carries MLB reports.
Really dude? Jeez
Andy Martino is employed by mets.com and is the official MLB writer for mets.com, after replacing Marty Noble last season.
He also kisses Wilpon ass, with big wet sloppy kisses.
Wrong guy. he is the New York daily news writer.
FORMER PHILLIES BEATER!
Read the Toby Hyde Report on January 17th at Metsminorleaguebog.com and put in Emaus in the search area. You will see that he is hitting at home in Las Vegas due to the thin air but not on the road for the past 2 years. He is also a poor 3rd base player making a lot of errors. Why do we want him.
Murphy has minor league options, a knee brace and very little time at 2B. I think that tickets him to Buffalo unless Emaus falls flat on his face. With Emaus’ Rule V make-it-or-lose-him status, he’s the front runner in this race.
Turner also has options, though he’s shown more defensive versatility (if not acumen). He’s likely going to Buffalo to learn to play 1B (assuming Murphy is at 2B, Tejada at SS and Lutz at 3B).
I’m still a little puzzled by the acquisition of the light hitting Hu. If they wanted someone with a good glove to sit on the bench, they could have just kept Tejada around. Hu is out of options, too, so he’s on that similar bubble as Emaus — use him or lose him. Luis Hernandez is also out of options, but his minor league numbers suggest Hu is a better gamble than he would be. Hu’s hit as many as 14 HRs in a minor league season and sports a career .299 avg. He’s never really had a shot in the majors, but his role here would be off the bench, so I doubt he’d have the chance to get into any kind of hitting groove (much like Chris Carter couldn’t last year playing behind immortals like Francoeur, Jacobs and Feliciano).
I totally agree with you about Hu. At least Tejada was homegrown and showed he could pick it.
I suspect it is because they think tejada still has a future, and want him getting more PT at age 21 than he would rotting on the bench in NY.
and if there is a chance that Jose gets traded during the year, they really need someone ready to step in for the rest of the season.
Murphy will be on the banch if he doesnt get the 2nd base job. He can play 3 positions.
Jerry, please tell me you aren’t counting outfield as one, C’mon now? 3 really?
Big Duda will more than likely be playing first at Buffalo, not Turner.
Call me cynical but I really think that Luis Castillo will be the starting 2nd baseman.
I also think Oliver Perez will be the #5 starter. It would be nice if Alderson and the new manager could be taken at their word,
“Castillo and Perez will have to earn their way on to the opening day .”
but.. hopefully both Castillo and Perez will get off to a decent=good start to the season making it easier to trade each.
There is just no way both will be sitting on the bench doing nothing and I don’t see Alderson having the balls to release them so they play…
Castillo and Perez on the roster. No ticket sales. Wilpons need for cash grows by the game. Hope it happens.
And what has led you to believe that?
Lifer, why would u doubt their veracity? BTW, as far as I can tell both have been very straight forward in a refreshing style esp in Flushing.
Considering there are NO 40yr olds anywhere; but mngt/staff & only an asdditional 8M was invested this product strikes me as:
NOT A CONTENDER; BUT CERTAINLY COMPETITIVE IN THE NL, 81-85 WIN TEAM IN MY HUMBLE ESTIMATION MY BIGGEST FEAR IS THAT BULLPEN SCENERIO; BUT THEN AGAIN HOW MANY TIMES HAV TEAMS IN THE NL SUPPOSEDLY DONE DECENTLY EVEN STARTING WITH A QUESTIONABLE PEN SITUATION SEE ATL & PHL OVER PAST 2-3 YRS. HOWEVER, THAT LINEUP HAS SOME SIGNIFICANT IF UNDERESTIMATED SCORING ABILITY, NYM KEY STATS FOR 2011 IMO ARE RBI & RS! HR WILL BE MODEST; BUT COULD SUPRISE WITH 30 FROM WRIGHT,BELTRAN,BAY; BUT I WOULDN’T COUNT ON THAT ESP IN CITIFIELD. IF NOTHING ELSE IF BELTRAN’S 100% THAT’S AN ATHLETIC LINEUP OF RELATIVE YOUTHFUL VETERANS.
This projected bullpen is a joke. Here’s mine: Frankie, Parnell, Buchholz, Carrasco, Acosta, Byrdak, Misch.
nobody hit over .290 or hit 30 hr ? one guy has over 71 rbi ?
and that rotation ? must be 10th in the NL.
bleak …
Dude you know Wright, Beltran and Bay have all hit over 30 homeruns, their whole career is not last years stats.
The rotation, shaky of course, but did everyone forget Pelf DID have 15 wins with a horrible July. Dickey was good.
Not hanging any flags on the facade yet, NOR, should any fans throw up the white towels either.
the mets are the laughing stock of baseball for the 4th yr running. the only respect they get is on late night tv, when they are the butt of letterman’s jokes. anybody with half a brain can see they cannot win with that pitching staff, therefore it should have been addressed and not with washed-up cheap waste of roster spot people and please don’t tell me they have no $, than sell the team. Most fans have had enough and you can see that with the ticket sells this yr, ghost town usa in queens.
The Dodgers, Marlins, Cubs, and Royals may be bigger laughing stocks, depending on perspective
Well then why don’t you find another team, find their blogs and post there? Otherwise being associated with a laughing stock and not doing anything about it, makes YOU the moron.
