I would definitely keep Evans over Harris but with out luck the would wind up with a team that, because of a fielding play he makes, beats us in a heart breaker or maybe a big game in Sep if this team plays as it should with a late contribution from Johan.

I think that cost wise and because he has shown the ability to hit big league pitching that with this year being a “we’ll take whatever they produce on the field attitude” not being expected to be great to allow a home grown player to back up Davis and RH power bat off bench plus can give Bay a day off here and there.
I prefer taking a chance on a home grown talent that has shown us something rather than a under the Mendoza line hitter who only plays Gold Glove OF against us.

True not like we can’t live w/out Hairston but he has some exerience and has power. But ya, we need a lefty on bench and Harris also plays multiple positions so i think we will see him when bringing in releiver for 2x switches, he has some versatility. Murphy should be on the bench alot and he’s a lefty so he could fill that roll but id actually rather him play 2b in Buffalo first month and get consistent ab’s and some game 2b play before bringing him up and let Turner start the year. Once the year starts thou i think it will sort itself out thru injurys and how guys play.

I agree id like to have 7-man bullpen because we should have some speed bumps w/some starts and its not like we have the best bullpen either so id rather have an extra arm then wear them thin. . .

I like Evans better than Hairston, so if Harris HAS to make because he’s a lefty (he’s terrible and I hate that he might HAVE to make the team), then Hairston can get the boot. But with Young’s and Capuano’s history and Dickey still not reliable, I think the team should carry seven men in the bullpen and five on the bench. I could live with Tankersley starting out his minor league deal in Buffalo and Byrdak being the only LOOGY with Misch as the long man and keeping a six-man bench, but that might be playing with fire due to the questionable staff.

XTree – how many pitchers do you think Mets carry in bullpen ?? And bench non-pitchers ?? For bullpen i see you didnt include Acosta or poss of Bueno. Its not like im high on Acosta but he’s somewhat relaiable, im almost more confident in him then Parnell a this point(hope im worong about that thou). I think Bueno will have to pitch lights out to make it. I see KRod, DJ, Parnell, Acosta, Misch and Tank. Obv compettion in spring could change that but i see TBuch starting Buffalo but def being on team majority of season once things settle plus Acosta is out of options cant send him down. And i dont think there’s room for 2 LOOGYsor no chance Evans.

Bench i see Paulino, Hu, Hairston, Harris, backup 2b and then Evans if we go with 6 guys in the pen. I dont think they need Haris so if it comes down to it i hope they keep Evans over Harris. I mean Evans does give us backup 1b. Maybe the Spring will put someone on 15-day DL and sort things out maybe we can keep 7 in pen ..we;ll see

I would much rather have evans than harris, but I don’t think they are going with a bench that has no lefties on it.

I really hope they find a spot for Evans. If one of the OF’s are out for an extended period, Id much rather have Evans the LHarris. Im glad they got Hairston they needed a 4th w/some experience, but id rather have Evans make team and have them outright LHarris. We’ll have plenty of versatiltiy on bench w/out Harris, i hope new mgmt garners some trust in Evans during the spring and we move forward w/him instead of hariis ..

Evans or Harris? Or can they get a better guy that is cut by a good team and doesn’t have waivers left? Doubt the Mets spend money another OFer even if he is better than Evans/Harris.

ANY, I have Evans as the 4th OF and Hairston as the 5th. 4th and 5th are subjective, anyway. If defense is needed first, then Hairston becomes the 4th. If a PH is needed first, Evans is first off the bench. But I digress. I think with the shaky injury history of the projected rotation and the multi-positional faceted bench players the Mets have, a five-man bench and seven-man pen is more prudent. If your bench consists of Paulino, Hu, Emaus/Murphy (whoever doesn’t start), Evans and Hairston, the outfield is sufficiently backed up. Hu’s got the MI, both 2B candidates can also back up third and Evans and Murphy can play first. This way, Misch can be a long man, Tank and Burdak can be LOOGYs, and add K-Rod, Parnell, DJ and T-Buch, and that’s a well-rounded team.

That’s my “perfect world” team, though. A lot of those guys need to prove it in PSL.

the only way I see Evans making the team is if a starting OF gets hurt (bad), Hairston gets hurt (no biggie) or sucks royally, or they go with a 6 man bench and 6 man en (which I think is a good idea anyway).

Harris will likely also stink, but he is a lefty.

I too would hate to lose evans for nothing via waivers.
