I'm not too concerned over what car he is driving. I'd rather him punching an accelerator than an old man. So long as he takes his anger management sessions (which don't really work BTW) and gets a hold of his temper and stops beating people, I don't care.

But I still say $50 million is way too much to spend on a closer.

That's why he signed with us. The 44 M over four years. He did play well for the most part while he was here even though there was the game against the Yankees that he blew because he wasn't expecting to "come in in a non-save situation."

He also wasn't available in game 7 of the 2006 NLCS because he threw so many pitches while blowing game 6. We had to go with Heilman on the mound for that climatic moment. That didn't turn out well for us.

He then was unavailable because of back spasms during the last few weeks of the 2007 pennant race in which we lost by ONE game.

He was also out for most of 2008 in a season we lost the pennant race by TWO games.

He was out almost the entire 2009 season.

He cost us a #1 pick the Phillies used to get Kyle Drabek which was the biggest part of their ability to get Roy Halliday and the supplemental pick Philly got went towards acquiring Joe Blanton.

We did, and continue to have a need for a starting pitcher in our own rotation.

Wagner also allowed Boston to select their current #3 and #9 prospects, another starting pitcher and a second basemen which has also been a source of poor play for over a decade despite our spending 45 M on it over a 7 year period.

Moves like this are exhibit A in how a team winds up simultaneously having the highest payroll in the NL as well as more losing seasons than winning ones over a 20 year period.

Wagner helped his former team much more than he helped us and then when his 44 M dollar contract was over he helped the Red Sox replenish their already deep and talented farm.

If we weren't willing to pay him the most he wouldn't have come here.

He was here for the 44. Period.

Harry C, You can follow all the Burnitz's, Wagners, Coleman's, Bonilla's, Alomar's, Vaughns, O'Brien's, Alou's, El-Duques', Pedro's, Greene's, Bay's and Castillo's you want to on your fantasy baseball tracker. But all these guys who come here for their last few years of their career are only here for the check anyway.

That's why despite the former all star status of most of these expensive acquisitions, they played like s**t, couldn't stay on the field or both and then leave without us being able to get anything for the future the way Boston does.

Damon, Pedro, Bay, Wagner, Cabrera, V. Martinez, Beltre, combined all got Boston 14 !st round picks. I guess that's the reason they're not swooping down on the landfill like we are trying to fill 5 different black holes every year.

They are a big part of why we have had the biggest payroll as well as ELEVEN losing seasons out of the last 20.

Mcillvaine was the only GM we have had since Cashen who tried to build a team capable of competing for a World Series year in and year out and that's why the Wilpon got rid of him.

They must need the tax deduction from the accelerated depreciation they can write off on all these players who rapidly go down hill as soon as they get here.

When teams are in contention, the fans talk about winning the pennant and who the main opposition will be. When teams suck and have GMs that do absolutely nothing over the Winter, the fans talk about the cars the players drive. Or if they are secretely on the payroll they rwrite endless posts about the bad former GMs to deflect from the failures of the current regime. How this organization has successfully lowered fan expectations is incredible. At least they do something right. Pirates, Royals, Mets, Indians, no expectations. What a group to be in.
