Yes I thought everyone was aware of this, maybe not.

When Manuel first came in he had the team focus on hitting the ball to the opposite field and it was cited as one of the reasons why the HR totals went down because no one one was pulling the ball in a park you really need to pull to get over the fence. It was cited as one of the leading causes for Wright HR drought in 2009

But last year that concept was scrapped. Manuel did however stay involved in the hitting.

Now I will say I happen to like HoJo and I think he could be a decent hitting coach and while the excuse of Manuel's meddling may be true and more to blame than HoJo himself I will say that HoJo should have made the decision to be a good coach instead of a good soldier!

As I said during our conversations about Sandy and possible Wilpon meddling,
I would rather get fired for doing what I thought was right than get fired for implementing someone else's ideas of what was right and having it thrown onto my resume.

HoJo will be back in a Mets Uni someday of that I have no doubt. I think it wouldn't have killed them to throw the Cyclones managing gig at him or something above Hitting coach where he could feel he was in training for something more.

I don't blame HoJo entirely for our hitting problems last year but he does deserve some credit for it! A lot had to do with no Beltran and No Reyes and Bay but Wrights two extended slumps (one early the other dead center season) looked an awful lot like HoJo slumps from his playing days and he always struck out when he didn't get his hits.

It's Hudgens job now and lets just hope he is a good hitting coach and not just a good soldier!

All of us in our jobs are faced with meddling from management but in the end it is YOUR job and YOUR reputation and if you really want to keep both you need to do what you think is best regardless of what your boss says he wants.

I would rather get fired for being right than get fired for being right then doing what I knew to be wrong anyway!

Cause that is the definition on deriliction of duty!

Good thing Pagan is so young and doesn't have his on leg problems.

I don't what you are saying. That center field should be an open competition? According to Collins, it is.

That Beltran shouldn't be the center fielder if Pagan proves more capable? Ya, that's the point of the competition.

I would think it's in the best interests of the organization to discover how healthy Beltran's knee is before making any decision on where he plays this year. You may not like the man, but his is a former Gold Glove center fielder. If he and his knee are healthy, then it's in the best interests of the Mets to play him in center. If they aren't in contention, we may be able to trade him and his worth in the marketplace would be higher as a center fielder. We can always switch Pagan back to center once Carlos leaves (whether it be through trade or not signing him after the season). This season is about setting the team up for the future and THAT is in the best interests of the team, plain and simple. Your feelings about the man should not stand in the way of bettering the team in the long run.

good article actually. I hope the Hudgens guy knows what he is doing, since it sounds like they are starting to get down to the nitty gritty of mechanics and approach.

so we can blame Jerry for screwing up Wright as a hitter, not Hojo?

I knew jerry was a menace.

unless of course, this is just wright sticking up for his BFF. And if he really thought hojo had the best idea, why not just go with it?

Was anyone aware of this?

"I think he can really help out the hitting. If you allow HoJo to control the hitting, I think that he'd be an excellent hitting coach. If you let him bring his philosophies in and allow him to do what he's capable of doing, then I think he'd make a heckuva hitting coach."

Wright's comment about allowing HoJo to implement his philosophies was a reference to the long-obvious fact that former manager Jerry Manuel took the lead with hitting and HoJo was merely assisting in another man's teachings. Pressed on that, though, Wright did not want to turn the conversation negative."
