Deep Leagues: Wright Is Top Third Baseman

Deep Leagues are rolling out their positional rankings for the 2011 season. I’ve been waiting for them to complete third base because I was curious to see where they would rank David Wright this year.
Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised.
The stats represent AVG, HR, RBI, RS, SB
1. David Wright - NYM $31 .300, 30, 100, 100, 20
2. Evan Longoria – TB $30 .295, 30, 110, 100, 10
3. Alex Rodriguez – NYY $30 .280, 35, 110, 90, 10
4. Kevin Youkilis – BOS $28 .290, 25, 90, 100, 5
5. Ryan Zimmerman – WAS $27 .280, 25, 90, 90, 5
6. Jose Bautista – TOR $25 .250, 30, 90, 80, 5
7. Adrian Beltre – TEX $23 .280, 25, 85, 75, 5
8. Pedro Alvarez – PIT $21 .275, 25, 90, 80, 5
9. Aramis Ramirez – CHC $20 .270, 25, 90, 70, 0
10. Casey McGehee – MLW $19 .280, 20, 90, 70, 0
With a healthy and motivated Jose Reyes hitting leadoff, and Angel Pagan batting second, I can see Wright potentially topping 125 RBIs this season.

An article by Craig Lerner

Well, we know that Bayonne was not working for deepleagues when they made this list!
and look, no text message stats listed for him. Just old fashioned baseball card basics.
and to Craig, if Wright does stay in the 3 hole all year and gets his 600+ ABs, then he could easily get 125. Should be plenty of guys in scoring positin for him, and lots of speed. If he can go back to being a line drive up the gap machine, and not swing at every pitch thrown, he could lead the league in doubles and be way up there in OBP and RS too, along with all the rbis.
if everyone stays healthy, DWright will have a monster year
I remember in past seasons before Jose got hurt and the stats were posted on how many times he was on base, at 2b, at 3rd and how many times he scored vs who drove him in and he should of had almost 130 to 140 RS but it all depends on who is hitting behind you and I hope David takes advantage of having Jose and Angel in front of him, hitting doubles and then just letting the jack rabbits run the bases, Wow, now that is what I would call David stepping up and claiming his spot among the elite players in NL and AL.
Go David!
Yup, Sarge!!!
Go David, make the doubters disappear behind their keyboard, staring at your accomplishments on their new widescreen LED lit, LCD monitor. David, you’re ranked higher than any Yankee, though #3, Alex Rodriguez, is biting at your heels.
Fantasy or not, true Mets fans are proud of you. (Well, maybe a few resent you.) Let’s make that clear. You saber guys are doing a great job.
Deep Leagues is a Fantasy Baseball site. This list is for fantasy baseball, not real. Let’s make that clear.
Looks like the line between real baseball and fantasy baseball gets blurrier all the time with the saber guys who’ve been doing a lot of talking here recently being unable to tell the difference.
Now authors don’t have to differentiate between fantasy and real baseball in the age of saber. Pathetic.
Did you really not know those were fantasy rankings? Really? I know the dollar amounts confused you, because they put those on real scoreboards all the time and it’s tough to differentiate, but I’m pretty sure it was painfully obvious to anyone who read the article who made that list. The link was also probably a tip off.
Yep – I had no idea that was a fantasy site. I don’t do fantasy baseball. And DAMNED I should have paid attention to those dollar numbers instead of ignoring them because they meant nothing to me.
Stupid me..how DARE I not know a fantasy site when i see one!!
take ur sarcasm and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.
Nasty boy. Nasty boy.
It’s a good thing you provided a link Lerner for those that wanted to know what “Deep Leagues” was all about or else we may have taken this post as a Baseball America type site.
No sooner did I click on the link did I see at the top of the site page
“Deep Leagues Your home for extreme fantasy baseball”
Though with a site name like “Deep Leagues” I kind of already had an idea it was a fantasy baseball site. It was either that or my other option a “porn site” and well I figured I am on a baseball site reading a post by an author that likes statistics so it wasnt hard to guess that “Deep Leagues” was probably a fantasy baseball site.
Do I get an A+?
So we have:
#10 David Wright
#39 Jose Reyes
#83 Jason Bay
#98 Frankie Rodriguez
#147 Ike Davis
#157 Carlos Beltran
#166 Angel Pagan
Not too shabby!! LGM.
Player A 2010: .294/.372/.507 96 R, 22 HR, 104 RBI, 15 SB, 291 TB
Player B 2010: .283/.354/.503 87 R, 29 HR, 103 RBI, 19 SB, 295 TB
Those are the numbers that are most likely to be counted in fantasy leagues, depending on your set-up.
Player A is Evan Longoria. Player B is David Wright.
What’s interesting to note is that back in 08, the talk was of Wright being the most valuable 3B over the next 10 yrs, provided he could stay at his pace. The horrible 2009 obviously derailed that pace.
While I would still take Longoria off the board first, I have to admit that the conclusion that Deep Leagues made is not that weird at all. 44 of Longoria’s RBI’s were Bartlett and Crawford, who are both gone.
Fantasy-wise, Wright needs to up his steals, and hope that Reyes and Pagan are on base a lot.
It was reported on “Metsmerised.com” earlier this week that the Mets, “had shopped David Wirght around” in an attempt to trade him last month.
Hmmm…I wonder why a Major League baseball team would be “shopping around” the #1 ranked 3rd baseman if the team truely wanted to contend for the divisional title or wild card?
This only reinforces in my mind that the Mets have amde a descission not to compete for the next 3-5 yrs.
Lifelong,
That info above is from a Fantasy Baseball site. It’s not real, lol.
Is it to baseball what your posts are to writers?
Des, instead of following me around looking for an opening go find that link for Jerry flying to Sacramento, as you said and go back and read 4 year old stories and try to pass them off here as current events.
So what day was it that Jerry got on that plane and flew to Sacramento?
I sent you the proof.and I spoke to the AD at the college. You can find my response on MMO if you care. And don’t say it’s four years old. NY Times writer George Vecsey wrote the story on Oct. 3, 2010. You don’t want to know the truth. Bayonne — you’re the club fighter who never backs up so other folks punch/slap you with the truth. You come in head first, sacrificing what may be the least valuable part of your anatomy.
i think you’re senile man.
In case you forgot, we’re on the internet and anything can be searched. Now you’re speaking to people at William Jessup College? Are you nuts?
Ohhh, and I’ll do you one better…you’ve provided links to at least 2 recent articles addressing J. Manuel’s fundraising effort of Feb. 2007. Funny thing is, both articles linked to the original story back in 2007. Yes, writers can mislead too, crazy right?
Another thing, don’t you think another reader of this site would love to back you up and say ‘Hey Bayonne…i found proof…Des was right”
That hasn’t happened.
Stop being a flat out HALF-WIT man. Moron doesn’t begin to describe you.
Don’t waste my time anymore. You moron.
Go ahead Bayonne. Mix the facts up with some ad hominem, irrational statements. You don’t need anybody to look up the post I sent to you. Just do it yourself. You don’t want to. Check out what George Vecsey of the New York Times wrote on October 3, 2010. That’s 2010 my man.
By the way, clear your head. I did speak to the school the week Jerry Manuel had a Tuesday meeting there. I posted that because of the current economy they pushed back the plans for a couple of years. I also said I’d keep you updated but apparently you don’t want facts to confuse your head because the concrete has hardened.
As baby al once said, maybe your days on spent pushing the shopping carts on Kennedy Blvd. Now go out and buy another bag of Sakrete. The concrete can also be used for repair jobs. You need one.
Des – I’ll even give you a little help on this. Isn’t that nice?
Go to google, use keywords “Jerry Manuel”, “William Jessup College”, throw in any other keywords you like – how about “Sacramento” or “2007″?
Oh…and then Google has this neat little tool on the left where you can search for only recent results. Pick from ‘past 24 hrs’, ‘past week’, ”past month, ‘or past year”
You’ll probably find a couple articles written about it, in fact some guy wrote a story about it in 2009. Doesn’t change the fact that Manuel tried to do this in 2007 if no other manager jobs came his way.
Now that he took that flight back to Sacramento – as you so succinctly put it..oh and by the way I’ve asked you several times to provide a link about the day he took that flight…….anyway…..How are the latest efforts going in renewing that fundraiser in 2011?
Find it.
Bayonne, there are very few fates worse in life than those in which you’ve helped. Push your shopping basket on Kennedy and don’t mess with those who are much smarter than you.
So your saying that David Wright shouldn’t print out the ratings list and take it to his next contract negotiation or arbitration hearing?
Ya, anonymous sources said the Mets quietly asked about what they could get for him.
And that could mean anything. It may have never actually happened. They may just be testing the market so they can get a value on players with comparative production.
They may be looking to trade him.
they may be getting an idea of what they will have to pay him in 2 years wehn he will look for a new contract.
Hey guys, I wasn’t trying to give this list the same significance you would give a list like this from a Baseball America or Sporting News. I assumed that most knew that Deep Leagues is a major fantasy site. Didn’t mean to make a big deal out of it but I thought some of you may have liked to see that Wright ranked pretty high by a site that gets it’s fame from predicting which players will be the best offensively by position. They actually have a pretty solid track record.
I would hope most MMO readers did Lerner and even if they didn’t it wasn’t hard to figure out who they were by clicking the link.
Most MMO readers are intelligent enough to figure out things without you having to put a disclaimer stating “Hello this information is from a fantasy sports site”. Disclaimers like that would be like ordering a cup of coffee and getting mad cause it doesn’t say “be careful coffee may be hot.
Thanks for the comment. I just wanted post something that seemed like positive news which I think we could all use where the Mets are concerned. I hadn’t been posting much the last few days because the news has been too depressing.
Apparently, it is asking too much of some readers to look at the tag line below the title of the site. Or to notice that the word “fantasy” pops up about 50% of the page.
Um….I’ve never participated in fantasy ball of any type and without clicking the link I quickly realized it was a fantasy league baseball site of some sort you were commenting on.
‘I’ve been waiting for them to complete third base’ comment and the $$ figures were the clear tip off what you were referring to.
Maybe because I don’t see red anytime there is a post that involves DWright and his talents?
Look you need to look no further than who was the starting 3rd baseman in the All Star game.
yes it is voted by the fans and while David had a bad 2009 so did everyone wearing a met uni!
It is still a team sport and you need other players to perform before you can get the opportunity to perform yourself!
There is nothing wrong with Wright that can’t be solved by Beltran, Bay and Davis hitting!
If he is the only dangerous batter in the lineup then the opposition will simply neutralize him with intentional walks to face the guys who are NOT hitting!
And I know the grass always seems greener on the other side. But when you get elected to the All Star game as a starter you have to realize that most fans think Wright is a pretty damn good 3rd baseman!
You guys need to lighten up on Wright! Is it wrong to discuss trading him? No NEVER wrong to listen to offers.
I would be more pissed if Sandy started making players UNTOUCHABLE!
