Bobby Parnell Finally Gets It
Dan Martin of the NY Post, had a quote from reliever Bobby Parnell who talked about why he didn’t make the team out of Spring Training last season and ended up starting the season with Triple-A Buffalo.
“I got caught up into working on my off-speed pitches too much instead of pitching and I had a couple of bad outings,” Parnell said at Digital Domain Park. “I didn’t really prove anything last year while I was here because I was too complacent in spring training. I felt comfortable about making the team and looking back on it, I was working on my pitches too much and not really pitching when I needed to.”
Parnell says that it will be different this time around and will be focused on simply getting people out.
That’s the spirit!

Parnell stepping up this year will be guge for the pen. I wish him all the best of luck.
LETS GO METS!!!
huge*
seems odd to me, since it seems that ST would be the time to actually work on improving your pitches, not waiting until the season starts.
You would think that. Maybe clubs figure winter ball or something is better for learning new stuff. Bubble players like Parnell should use ST to show off and refine what they’ve already got in their minds.
It fine to work on pitches provided your pitching coach and manager are in on the plan.
Communication was lacking between players and management last year and you know why?
Too many distractions about how long the manager was going to be here and all the other controversies that were surrounding that!
If Capuano and/or Young break down how about Parnell as a starter? A 200 inning starter is more valuable than a 70 inninng setup guy.
that didn’t seem to work out so well when they tried it last year. based on his stuff, etc. right now, it seems like he is destined to be a back of the pen guy.
but you are right, a SP is worth way more than a RP.
they have other guys to try before getting desperate enough to go to Parnell again I think.
Can we see him succeed as a reliever first?
