My only problem with Perez is he seemingly has refused to admit to himself that he has an issue he needs to work on.

To think your still starting material two years after being a mediocre pitcher only to decline is a bit of case of denial.

I don’t hate the guy but I was disappointed that he refused a minor league assignment last year. That might have been work that would have got him over the issue.

Whatever happens with Ollie doesn’t matter.
If he wins a role on this team it will say more about the guys he competed with than anything about Ollie himself.

I want the best options at each position. If that happens to be OP, so be it. I don’t think it will be, but this about the team, not how a personally feel about 1 player.

It is now the 50th year for our team and I have no doubt that Oliver Perez is as hated as any player who ever put on a Mets jersey. It is not just because he has pitched poorly or because he hasn’t showed the maturity to not blow up at critical times in a game. For most of us it was his refusal to go to the minors to try and work his problems out.

It has been said he came to camp this year with new and effective pitches? He surely didn’t use them in winter ball because according to all reports he was shelled constantly!

If he makes this team, I would be shocked as most of the fan base would. I can understand why he was invited to camp instead of being cut. 12 million bucks is a lot of money to throw away but even if he totally dominates in his spring training appearances he needs to apologize to his teammates for his selfishness last year…

I totally concur as I pray to the gods controlling history repeating itself, if TB could gasrner Kazmir for Zambrano, I’d like to think Sandy could possibly match that miracle and for as long as “Mets” is emblazoned across their chest, I’d root for bin Laden or even the devil himself, let alone Ollie Perez. or 1 yr I caN TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM I LOVE FOR SOOO LONG. I’ve certainly got enough faith in Sandy to believe it would definitly be limited to ONLY 1 evebn dshould the world stop & Ollie win 20!
In this same vein, I would condemn any fool booing him during home iopener intros. Boo the back of the Jersey in your hearts; but restricy your vocalizationds for the front ONLY! It’s time to reclaim our fan rep as so called “knowledgable fans. Even as David was sending Bethsheba’s husband into battlee at the head of the asault, I’m sure he wished for him to keill many enemies. Only the big picture matters!

Perez has proven that he is a me first player. When he signed contract he proceeded to go to Mexico and get fat and then got killed in WBC 2009 gone. In 2010 all he had to do was take a minor league assignment and show hew wanted to get better and no one would have had a problem. He chose not to. The worse thing that could happen is he has a good spring, because then you believe he cares when we already no he doesn’t. If you think it increases his trade value your crazy. He is a piece of garbage and be cut on last day of spring so the only job he could find is mopping up locker rooms

I can’t honestly say that I want him on the team but I can say that if he makes the team I would root for him to perform well when called upon.

I have lil patience left for Ollie so any rough patches will not be met with much understanding after last season with me.

hope he wins a cy young and gets another team to shell out 12mm a year for him.

neither of these will ever happen.

perhaps he has a good spring and can get traded. also low to no probability.

his era won’t see under 5 after he’s got 10 IP – if he gets 10 IP at all.

“What if Oliver Perez were to out-pitch newcomers Chris Young and Chris Capuano, or out-perform youngsters Jenrry Mejia and Dillon Gee, and emerge as the biggest positive surprise in Mets camp this Spring?” We’d all still be skeptical. We’d say it’s spring and what will he do in real games. But if you watched Ollie pitch last year, you know that won’t happen. Steve Blass has a better chance to find what he lost and come back with the Mets.

“As improbable as that may sound, it’s not entirely impossible.” That may make for good copy but they’d be better off with another bum. Any bum.

I root for the team. So from the standpoint of wanting the team to do better, then yes, I am rooting for an Ollie resurgence.

Even if it means they can finally trade him and get a couple of semi-prospect bodies back, that is something.

If the longest of shots comes in and he makes the rotation, then hell yeah I will be rooting for him to have a bounce back year (at least 2008 or so level).

The team is not exactly overflowing with top quality, reliable SP. so if he can give some good starts, take them. I don’t, however, want him in the pen. that is painful to think of. and I don’t see him beating out young or capuano (Neither really is a RP), unless someone gets hurt.

I do, however, give Ollie props for spending the winter pitching, and apparently working on improving his stuff (change, cutter). Especially if all the nasty fan comments are true, you would have expected him to have sat home all winter counting his money, swilling beer and getting fat. So he actually does seem to care (about something career related, even if it is his next contract).

new FO, clean slates all around, and if he flat out wins a job in ST, more power to him.
